Tang Wins with a "Short Deck" Hand

Level 9 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Danny Tang
Danny Tang

Danny Tang raised it up from the cutoff and Preben Stokkan shoved all in for around 60,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Tang called, stating he had a "short deck hand".

Danny Tang: {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Preben Stokkan: {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

"No!" Tang shouted as the dealer fanned the flop of {5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs}, all of which would not be in the deck if they were playing short deck. The {6-Diamonds} on the turn still meant Stokkan was in the lead with his ace-high but the {10-Spades} on the river paired up Tang. Stokkan was eliminated and Tang collected his chips.

Chidwick Doubles; Van Hoof Busts

Level 9 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Jorryt van Hoof went all in from the hijack for 61,000 and action made its way around to Stephen Chidwick, who called his last 58,000 off in the big blind.

Stephen Chidwick: {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Jorryt van Hoof: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Chidwick found help on the flop {7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} but the turn {9-Spades} gave van Hoof four outs to a ten-high straight. However, the river {9-Clubs} paired the board to give Chidwick nines up and score him the double, leaving van Hoof with just 3,000 that he lost on the following hand with queen-three to Kitson Kho's pocket tens.

O'Dwyer Gets Lucky Double Through Dvoress

Level 9 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Daniel Dvoress saw action folded to him in the cutoff and opened to 10,000. He was three-bet all in by Steve O'Dwyer in the big blind for a total of 107,000. Dvoress thought for a couple of seconds and then made the call.

Steve O'Dwyer: {k-Spades}{10-Spades}
Daniel Dvoress: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

O'Dwyer was drawing slim with a dominated king and his odds only got worse on the flop {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{j-Hearts}. Luckily for him, the turn {10-Diamonds} changed the landscape, putting him out in front with a pair of tens. He was not in the clear quite yet, though, as Dvoress picked up eight outs to Broadway in addition to having three live queens. However, the river came {8-Spades} and O'Dwyer scored the double.

Grospellier Among the Recent Eliminations

Level 9 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Bertrand Grospellier raised it up from the cutoff and Michael Soyza announced all in from the big blind. Grospellier called off his fresh stack of just under 100,000 and the cards were tabled.

Michael Soyza: {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Bertrand Grospellier: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{6-Spades} to give Soyza the lead with a pair of jacks. The {2-Spades} on the turn nor the {5-Diamonds} on the river was going to help Grospellier stay alive.

Ramin Hajiyev: {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Tsugunari Toma: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
