Double KO for Beresford

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

Antonin Teisseire shoved all in for 47,000 in middle position and Conor Beresford tanked awhile then slapped in 75,000 from the button. Small blind Anton Bergstrom flicked in a chip, having about 50,000 in his stack.

Bergstrom: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Teisseire: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Beresford: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

"Ace coming," the player in the cutoff said confidently.

None came on the first four cards as {4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{q-Clubs} rolled off the deck, but the river was indeed the {a-Spades}.

Soulier's Aces Cracked To Bust

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Fabrice Soulier
Fabrice Soulier

Fabrice Soulier had opened preflop from the cutoff and was three-bet all in by Bjorn Kozenkai in the big blind. Soulier quickly called.

Fabrice Soulier: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Bjorn Kozenkai: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Soulier was way out in front until the flop came {2-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, giving Kozenkai the nut flush. However, Soulier's top set meant he had outs at the board pairing to stay alive. Unfortunately for him, the turn {7-Clubs} and river {5-Spades} didn't do the trick and he was eliminated from the tournament just a few places before reaching the money.

Lucchini Doubles Through Brandstrom, Leaves Him With Crumbs

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Claudio Lucchini saw action folded to him in the hijack and shoved his last 147,000 into the middle. He received action from Simon Brandstrom, who was on the button and covered Lucchini by just a few big blinds.

Claudio Lucchini: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Simon Brandstrom: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Lucchini pulled further ahead on the flop {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, flopping top set. However, the turn {8-Diamonds} gave him a sweat to fade the straight draw that Brandstrom picked up. The river {k-Diamonds} was safe, resulting in a fist pump as the amount to be sent his way was counted and committed from Brandstrom, leaving him with just 25,000 behind as Lucchini stacked his newly-earned chips to bring him over 300,000.

Wattenberg Picks Off Zarco

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

As the tournament approached the bubble, frequent tanking has been occurring at nearly every table. Clocks have been called constantly, but a different sort of tank occurred at Table 13, this one on the river.

In a battle of blinds, the board read {j-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{a-Spades} and Javier Zarco bet 75,000 into about 90,000 from the small blind. Kai Wattenberg went deep into the tank, thinking for several minutes.

"You really look like you want to call," Zarco finally said. "You want to see one?"

Wattenberg had counted out calling chips but couldn't seem to pull the trigger. Finally, he stuck them in.

"Good call," Zarco conceded, showing {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

Wattenberg pumped his fist and slapped down {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. He pointed at his head and indicated he kept thinking Zarco had ten-nine.

"Yeah, ten-nine," Zarco quipped. "That's all I have there."

Yared Doubles on Bubble

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Ghassan Yared opened to 34,000 from the cutoff and action folded to Luigi D Alterio in the big blind, who shoved all in to effectively put Yared to a decision to his stack.

Ghassan Yared: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Luigi D Alterio: {a-Clubs}{6-Spades}

Yared was way out in front but the flop {4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} did give D Alterio chop outs to the board double pairing. The turn {8-Spades} gave D Alterio another four outs at a gutshot, but the river {2-Hearts} was safe for Yared and he scored the double as hand-for-hand play continues.

A Bubble Double

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

With two other all ins and calls having been dealt out, Joao Ferreira was all in for 21,000 in the big blind and awaiting his fate on {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Remi Wyrzykiewicz had him at risk in the hijack, and when the supervisor finally ordered the hand finished, they showed their cards.

Wyrzykiewicz: {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Ferreira: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

"Oh la la," Wyrzykiewicz said. "No good."

The turn and river were a {9-Hearts} and {k-Spades}, and Ferreira collected a double before receiving news he'd doubled into the money because of two bustouts.

Brand and Backlund Become Bubble Boys

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Per Backlund
Per Backlund

Two simultaneous all-in preflop situations arose with Simon Brandstrom all in for the last of his chips having received action from Vladimir Bozinovic on one table, while Per Backlund raised to 12,000 in the hijack and called off the rest of his chips when Jose Quintas shoved over the top of him from the button.

Hand #1:

Jose Quintas: {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Per Backlund: {k-}{k-}

The board ran out {9-}{10-Clubs}{5-}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} to give Quintas a flush on the river, cracking Backlund's kings to eliminate him from the tournament.

Hand #2:

Simon Brandstrom: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Vladimir Bozinovic: {j-Clubs}{7-Spades}

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} to give Bozinovic a pair of sevens on the turn to eliminate him at the same time as Backlund. The double-elimination brought the field from 145 down to 143, the exact number needed for play to end on the night as the tournament has officially reached the money.
