All Eyes on Neymar as 42 Remain on Day 2 of the €100,000 Super High Roller

Neymar
Neymar

Nick Petrangelo leads the final 42 players, but Neymar has stolen the show at the €100,000 Super High Roller.

The Brazilian soccer superstar, a day after scoring two goals in a game in Paris, arrived at the 2022 PokerStars and Barcelona©Casino European Poker Tour and fired two bullets before bagging a top-10 stack with 532,000.

Petrangelo, the American pro already with $24 million in career live earnings, sits atop the leaderboard when Day 2 begins at 12:30 local time inside Casino Barcelona. Petrangelo busted Kahle Burns with a flopped full house late on Day 1 to leap past Artur Martirosian into the chip lead with 1,250,000. Martirosian, who has already won the €25,000 event earlier at EPT Barcelona, is in second with 1,046,000.

Petrangelo and Martirosian are the only players above 1,000,000. Rounding out the top five are Daniel Dvoress (840,000), David Peters (727,000), and Mikita Badziakouski (720,000), who won this event the first time it was a €100,000 buy-in back in 2018.

A total of 63 entries joined on Day 1, including 50 unique entries, nearly surpassing the number from the last event in 2019. With late registration still open until the start of Day 2, that mark should easily be eclipsed. The prize pool will be announced shortly after registration closes. Patrik Antonius, Sam Greenwood, and Burns were among the players who failed to bag on Day 1 and will be forced to reeneter today if they want a chance at winning this prestigious title.

Play will pick up on Level 9, with blinds at 3,000-6,000 and a 6,000 big blind ante. There will be a 20-minute break every two levels. The tournament will play down to a final table today, which will be streamed with cards-up coverage by PokerStars Live on Twitch and Youtube tomorrow.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand throughout today as the field gets whittled down toward the money bubble and the final table.

Vogelsang Rivers a Set to Send Out Benitez

Level 9 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang

Francisco Benitez and Christoph Vogelsang built a pot of around 70,000 by the turn with the board showing {8-Spades}{q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. Benitez, in the small blind, checked to Vogelsang who checked behind.

The river came the {7-Diamonds} and Benitez checked again. Vogelsang bet enough to put Benitez all in, and Benitez called for his last 110,000.

Vogelsang turned over {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} for the rivered set and Benitez, who has already won two titles here in Barcelona, quickly mucked and made his exit.

Everyone Has a Flush as Davies Triples

Level 9 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Seth Davies
Seth Davies

Seth Davies bet 15,000 on a board of {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and was called by Aleksejs Ponakovs in the big blind. Steve O'Dwyer, in early position, raised to 55,000 and Davies called.

Ponakovs then shoved all in for 285,000 and O'Dwyer tanked for a moment before calling. Davies snap-called for 270,000 as they turned their cards over, Davies and Ponakovs being at risk.

Seth Davies: {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Aleksejs Ponakovs: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Steve O'Dwyer: {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

All three players had turned a flush, but Davies was ahead with the nut flush. O'Dwyer and Ponakovs were already drawing dead as the {a-Clubs} fell on the river.

Ponakovs was eliminated, while Davies took a chunk off O'Dwyer.

Neymar Calls Down Seidel; Addamo Busts

Level 10 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Neymar
Neymar

Neymar raised to 18,000 from under the gun and was called by Erik Seidel on the button and big blind Timothy Adams.

The flop came {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and action checked to Seidel, who bet 25,000. Adams folded, but Neymar stuck around to see the {5-Diamonds} turn.

He checked again and Seidel fired out another 85,000. Neymar, undeterred, called again and the river came the {6-Clubs}. Both players checked.

Neymar turned over {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} for a pair of queens and Seidel shook his head before mucking.

A few hands earlier at this table, Michael Addamo was eliminated by Santhosh Suvarna, who is now sitting around 1,000,000 after registering at the beginning of the day.

Conan Hits The Rail

Level 10 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Arthur Conan
Arthur Conan

After losing a few pots back-to-back, Arthur Conan became short and was all in for his last roughly 100,000 and called by Mikalai Vaskaboinikau.

Arthur Conan: {a-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Mikalai Vaskaboinikau: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Conan was dominated by the better kicker of Vaskaboinikau and when the board ran out {q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, it was the end of the road for Conan as the ace-ten high for Vaskaboinikau held up.

Henrik Hecklen
Henrik Hecklen

Shortly after hitting a miracle two-outer on the river to stay alive, Henrik Hecklen was all in again for 370,000 and up against Kent Staahle.

Henrik Hecklen: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Kent Staahle: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

There would be no miracles for Staahle as the board came {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} to keep Hecklen's aces in the lead. After coming back from the break with 123,000, Hecklen is now above 700,000 just 10 minutes into the level.

Heath Wins Massive Pot; Lefrancois Eliminated

Level 11 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Ben Heath
Ben Heath

Ben Heath opened the action from early position and was called by David Peters on the button, Pascal Lefrancois in the small blind and Pedro Garagnani in the big blind.

The flop came {k-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, Lefrancois and Garagnani checked to Heath who continued for 23,000. Peters got out of the way and Lefrancois and Garagnani came along.

On the {4-Spades} turn the blinds checked again and Heath sized up to 108,000. Lefrancois took a moment before moving all in for roughly 400,000. Garagnani folded and Heath rechecked his cards before making the snap-call.

Lefrancois rolled over {q-Spades}{9-Spades} for a straight and flush draw and Heath revealed {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for top two pair. The river peeled off the {10-Spades}, which at first looked good for Lefrancois, but made Heath a full-house and sent the Canadian to the rail.

Mike Watson
Mike Watson

Neymar opened to 25,000 from early position before Mike Watson shoved again in the cutoff, this time for 260,000. Neymar asked for a count and cut out the chips before calling.

Mike Watson: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Neymar: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Neymar didn't get any help on the {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{k-Spades} board, while the {j-Spades} on the river improved Watson to a full house and another double up.

Neymar
Neymar

Neymar raised to 23,000 from early position and was called by Jean-Noel Thorel on the button.

The flop came {5-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Neymar checked to Thorel who bet 10,000. Neymar raised to 50,000 and Thorel called to see the {10-Diamonds} on the turn.

Neymar again checked and Thorel bet 50,000. Neymar raised all in and Thorel called for 235,000, showing {a-Hearts}{10-Spades} for top two pair. Neymar had {a-Spades}{k-Spades} for a pair of aces and needed to improve.

The river came the {q-Spades} and Thorel's two pair stayed ahead. The stacks were counted down and Thorel barely had Neymar covered, sending the Brazilian soccer star to the rail.
