Mattern Ousted by Cardot

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern

Over on the featured tabled, Arnaud Mattern shoved for 77,000 from the cutoff and Yannick Cardot called on the button.

Arnaud Mattern: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Yannick Cardot: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop gave Mattern a flush draw, but the {3-Hearts} and {q-Hearts} completed the board to give Cardot a flush instead, and the 2007 EPT Prague Main Event winner was eliminated.

Lucien Cohen was eliminated on a different table and that left just one former champion still in the mix.

Chaoui Eliminated by Sebban

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Mehdi Chaoui
Mehdi Chaoui

In a battle of players who often duel each other in Paris, Mehdi Chaoui opted to limp-shove in a battle of the blinds. His push for around 185,000 was snapped off by Ariel Sebban in the big blind and the timing for the move by Chaoui came at an unfortunate moment.

Mehdi Chaoui: {k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Ariel Sebban: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

The {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop provided the flush draw for Chaoui but the {2-Spades} turn and {6-Clubs} river were both blanks.

Yaghmai Above a Million

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Nariman Yaghmai
Nariman Yaghmai

On a completed board of {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}, Franz Bracher checked his option with around 175,000 behind. Nariman Yaghmai then pushed all-in with the far superior stack on the button and that sent his opponent in the tank. Bracher used three time banks and eventually declared the call.

Yaghmai rolled over the {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for the runner runner nut flush and that beat the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} of the Swiss. The same table then lost Tomasso Briotti soon after as the early carnage continued.

More casualties shortly after included Huy Pham, Dylan Lambert and Alexandros Kolonias.

Another Two Down in Quick Succession

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Julien Martini recalled a hand in which his {a-}{q-} prevailed against fellow short stack Sylvestre Ceccaldi, who failed to get there with {a-}{j-} when both players made trips aces on the board.

One table over, Josip Simunic pushed a short stack of 72,000 with the {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} in the cutoff and was called by Marcelo Simoes on the button with the {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}.

Simunic wished for his partner on the rail to keep the fingers crossed and asked for low cards. However, the {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Clubs} board contained the dreadful ace and eliminate the former handball player.

More for Banicevic and Cristiani

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Marc Cristiani check-called the {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Spades} flop for 10,000 and checked again the {2-Hearts} turn on which Javier Gomez Zapatero bet another 52,000. Cristiani pushed all-in and the Spaniard folded.

Picking up the action on the {k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop soon thereafter, Gomez Zapatero check-raised the {k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop from 20,000 to 60,000 and Vlado Banicevic called. The {k-Spades} fell on the turn and Gomez Zapatero checked. Banicevic bet 75,000 and shut down his opponent.

Rasulo Hits the Rail

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Action was three ways with Andrea Rasulo committed for a small stack and {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on the flop when Pavel Veksler bet and his opponent folded, leaving just the two players to turn their cards up.

Andrea Rasulo: {q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Pavel Veksler: {a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

The turn was {k-Spades} and the river {9-Spades}, with no help for Rasulo, and he was eliminated from the tournament in the early stages of Day 3 by Veksler's aces and nines.
