Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Sam Grafton

The first of three days of the €3,000 EPT Mystery Bounty at the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour presented by Monte-Carlo Casino®️ is in the books. The field played twelve levels of 40 minutes each and unlimited reentries were available to players throughout the entire day. This led to plentiful action from the 581 registered players and when the dust settled, 167 of them remained to take a stack into Day 2.

Players who did not have any chips to bag at the end of the night need not fret, however, as late registration is still open until the start of Day 2 which will take place Thursday, May 4th at 12.30 p.m. local time. This also marks the moment the mystery bounties will come into play. €1,000 of each buy-in will be allocated to the bounty prize pool and each player who scores a knockout will receive a token that they can redeem for an envelope containing a mystery bounty at any moment of their choosing.

Liu Chun Keat had no shortage of practice delivering coups de grâce on Day 1, as he already eliminated several players on his way to a final tally of 368,500. He will take over 184 big blinds into Day 2, far and above everyone else.

PokerStars Ambassador Sam Grafton also amassed a big stack today, bagging 247,500 chips at the end of play. Grafton started off strong early on his first bullet and would never need a second one to end up with a top ten stack. Grafton has already found success earlier this EPT by winning the €10,200 event with this very same Mystery Bounty format. Bracelet winner Fabio Peluso, meanwhile, sits in fifth place on the leaderboard, as he ended up with 318,500 chips.

Chess Master and Twitch streamer extraordinaire Alexandra Botez also found her way into Day 2. Botez was sitting on a big stack throughout the early stages of Day 1, but eventually fell down to a below-average stack of 63,500. Other notables who bagged and tagged at the end of the day include Bruno Lopes (191,000), Will Kassouf (121,000), Nacho Barbero (111,000), and Martin Jacobson (45,000).

UK’s Carl Shaw and Ian Hamilton, meanwhile, made full use of the unlimited reentry format, valiantly firing seven bullets each. They did, however, not succeed in taking a stack into day 2. They will have one more chance to register tomorrow before the start of play if they wish to do so. Other familiar faces who did not make it through Day 1 include Alec Torelli, Dominik Nitsche, Alejandro Lococo, and Kalidou Sow.

When play restarts at 12.30 p.m. local time, the blinds will resume on Level 13 at 1,000/2,000 with a 2,000 big blind ante. Those who decide to make a (re)entry last minute will receive the starting stack of 30,000 chips, equating to 15 big blinds. The levels will continue to be 40 minutes long, with breaks of varying lengths scheduled after every three levels.

Nikiforov Downs Da Silva

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Ilya Nikiforov
Ilya Nikiforov

Ilya Nikiforov open-raised to 4,000 from early position before Leonardo Da Silva pushed his stack of 35,500 in the middle from the hijack. The action folded back to NIkiforov, who asked for a count. When that was given to him, he made the call to put Da Silva at risk.

Leonardo Da Silva: AJ
Ilya Nikiforov: AK

Da Silva flopped a flush draw on 64Q and the 10 turn brought him even more outs. Too many, as some would say, as Nikiforov's ace-king held when the 9 river completed the board.

Nikiforov is now playing near 250,000 chips and is among the bigger stacks in the room.

Mehdi Chaoui

Mehdi Chaoui was involved in a pot worth 21,500 against Lucas Silva Rocha. The flop of 575 saw Chaoui check from under the gun to Rocha in the cutoff. Rocha put out a bet of 5,500 and Chaoui came up with a raise to 16,000. Rocha made the call and the 2 turn graced the felt.

Chaoui spent some time in the tank before deciding to bet 22,000 this time. Rocha quickly folded and Chaoui shipped a pot to bring him over the 100,000 mark.

Duta Doubles in House-Over-House Situation

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Florian Duta
Florian Duta

A completed board of 23286 was already spread on Table 3. There were 37,000 chips in the middle and Florian Duta made a slight overbet of 40,000. Jean-Pierre Boulad was in the hijack and tanked for a while before announcing ''all in''.

Duta snap called the 29,000 chips he had left himself behind and tabled 88 for the best possible full house. ''That's why I tanked,'' Boulad explained, as he showed his 66 for the second-best full house.

The table was in awe of this big cooler, creating two stacks over 100 big blinds at the table.

Jessica Teusl
Jessica Teusl

Ricardo Caridade made the min-raise to 3,000 from middle position and Jessica Teusl three-bet to 9,000 from the button. Ghassan Bitar was in the small blind and called cold, and Caridade followed suit.

Three players saw the flop, which came down K96. All players checked and the dealer put out the 4 turn. Bitar and Caridade checked again, but Teusl now made a bet of 15,000. This was enough to take down the pot as her opponents quickly folded.

Osti Goes Pedal to the Metal

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A flop of 53J was already dealt when the action was caught. Cutoff Antonio Queijeiro checked to Mercedes Osti on the button, who fired out a bet of 6,000. Queijeiro then check-raised to 18,300 before Osti put in the three-bet all in for 48,500.

Queijeiro had to think long and hard about his decision but ended up making the call.

Mercedes Osti: 66
Antonio Queijeiro: QJ

Osti had three-bet the flop with just a pair of sixes, hoping her opponent would fold the better hand. Queijeiro saw through it, however, and made the daring call with his top pair.

The 9 turn killed all backdoor opportunities for Osti and the river remained free of a six with the 10 completing the board.

Osti took her leave while the table complemented Queijeiro for his hero call.

Beresford's Final Barrel

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

Matthew Khouri opened the action from under the gun with a raise to 2,500. Conor Beresford was enjoying a nice glass of wine in the big blind and decided to bump it up to 8,800. Khouri made the call and a flop was dealt.

669 emerged from the deck, on which Beresford made a continuation-bet of 6,500. Khouri was not ready to let go and made the call.

The 9 turn was checked by both players before Beresford took a good look at his cards again on the 10 river. What he saw apparently prompted him to go all in for his last 18,400 chips. Khouri, who only played 2,800 more, asked for a count. After the amount was confirmed, he made the call.

Beresford tabled K7 for the bluff with his king kicker, but Khouri had the better hand with AQ for an ace kicker. ''Of course,'' Beresford exclaimed, as he left to enjoy the rest of his wine elsewhere.

Marius Kudzmanas

Thomas Eychenne got it all in for around 30,000 and Marius Kudzmanas was the one to put him at risk. The rest of the table was out of the way and the cards were already turned up.

Thomas Eychenne: AQ
Marius Kudzmanas: KK

The board ran out 99K8K and Kudzmanas flopped a full house to send Eychenne to the rail before the river provided the overkill quads.

Chaoui Overbets River, Shows One

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 1,000 ante
Mehdi Chaoui
Mehdi Chaoui

A 11,500 pot was brewing between Luigi D'Alterio, Mehdi Chaoui, and Shakhabiddin Muradov. All postflop cards were dealt and the board read 1065K2. D'Alteria checked from the small blind to Chaoui in middle position, who overbet for an all-in sizing of 15,700.

Muradov tanked for a while but ultimately ended up folding. D'Alterio quickly followed suit and Muradov instantly let Chaoui know that he folded his king-jack for top pair. In response, Chaoui showed a J.

Conor Beresford, who is also at the table, laughed and keenly noted: ''That's a chop at worst!''.

Okada and Kehoe Check It Down

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Ken Okada
Ken Okada

Michel Bouskila, Zhewen Hu, Ken Okada, and Stephen Kehoe were four-way on a flop of A3Q. Bouskila and Hu checked from the blinds before Okada bet out 3,500 from the hijack. Kehoe was in the cutoff and was the only one who made the call.

The pair then checked through the turn K and river 10.

''Do you have an ace?'', Kehoe asked. ''Yes'', said Okada, as he turned over his A8. Kehoe tabled A3 and it took Okada a while to realize he was beaten, as took down the pot with his two pair.
