Boris Pesic opened the cutoff to 16,000. The button and small blind folded.

Sebastien Matrige, who had almost have his stack in the middle in big blind and ante, peeled his cards before placing his remaining 9,000 chips, into the pot.

Pesic called for 1,000 more. The two players turned over their cards as the cameras gathered.

The flop of 8♣8♥4♣ was clean for Pesic's pocket pair, and Matrige needed an ace or a queen to win.

The 2♣ meant that the remaining players were one card away from cashing in this record-breaking Main Event.

Matrige's fate was sealed on the 9♦ river. He tapped the table and bumped fists with his fellow table mates as he left the table.

Teun Mulder opened to 9,000 from middle position and was called by Jose Gonzalez in the cutoff. Samuel Bifarella squeezed to 102,000 from the small blind, leaving himself just 4,000 behind, which got a call from Mulder and a fold from Gonzalez.

Gonzalez checked to Mulder, who bet enough to put Bifarella all in. Bifarella called and hands were revealed.

The A♦Q♦9♠ flop gave both players a set and left Bifarella drawing to quads or a runner-runner flush.

It wasn't meant to be, however, as the 5♠ turn and 8♦ river bricked out for Bifarella and he was sent to the payout desk.

Duco Ten Haven opened under the gun to 18,000 and Robin Ylitalo called in the cutoff. Joseph Querleux shoved all in for 82,000 and Ten Haven made the call. Ylitalo got out of the way and the two players were left heads up.

The flop of 3♠2♣4♣ gave Ten Haven's aces a straight draw and left Querleux drawing slim.

Querleux got no help on the 10♥ turn and he departed the field on the 6♠ river.
