The 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Cyprus, taking place at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa, kicked off today with the $1,100 Eureka Main Event. Day 1a, the first of the six starting flights, got underway this afternoon with its turbo counterpart, Day 1b, set to kick off at 7 p.m. local time.
This inaugural event in Northern Cyprus drew an impressive field of 2,659 entries in 2023. The winner, Ankit Ahuja, claimed the trophy and the lion’s share of the $2,552,640 prize pool. Ahuja defeated Romania’s Eduard Norel in heads-up play taking home a massive $362,365 for his efforts.

Each player will receive a starting stack of 30,000 with the blinds commencing at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante. The levels will be 30 minutes long with players allowed one reentry per flight. A break of 15 minutes will be held after every four levels. Late registration will close at the end of Level 10 and play will end for the day once the field is reduced to 15% of the total entries. All players who survive into Day 2 are guaranteed to make the money, with the prize pool being announced at the start of Day 2.
Those unfortunate enough not to find a bag for Day 2 are in luck; four more starting flights over the following two days will provide ample opportunity to progress.

The action checked to Hauks, who continued for 400 on the 7♠Q♠A♠ flop. Only Dimitar Kukushkov, in the small blind, made the call.
The K♠ turn checked through to the Q♥ river. Kukushkov took the lead for 300 and Hauks made a quick call. Kukushkov tabled A♣8♠ for a small flush. Hauks mucked J♠J♣ face up as he conceded the pot.

Deniz Dogan raised to 200 from the cutoff, receiving calls from Krishna Madhariwar, on the button, as well as Georgios Georgiou and Yuri Maron, in the respective blinds.
The action checked to Maron on the A♣9♦8♣ flop, who elected to play out of flow with a lead of 300. All three players called.
The Q♦ turn saw the action again check to Maron, who sized up to 600. Both Dogan and Madhariwar called, while Georgiou folded.
The J♥ river saw one last shell of 1,600 from Maron. Dogan called and Madhariwar folded. Maron tabled 9♣4♣ for a pair of nines, but was bested by the two pair of Dogan as he showed Q♥J♠.

The action was caught as Krishna Madhariwar, in the big blind, checked and then called a bet of 2,000 from Razvan Nicolae Sabau, on the button, with the board reading 8♥9♠10♥7♥.
The J♥ river checked to a showdown. Madhariwar tabled 7♦6♠ playing the straight on board, but was bested by the 6♥3♠ of Sabau, who had rivered a flush.

A preflop-raising war saw 3,200 reach the middle with two players navigating a flop of 7♦A♦Q♦.
Both Yunkyu Song, in the big blind, and Leonid Sidelkovskiy, in the cutoff, checked the hand through to reveal the A♥ turn and J♠ river. Song was the first to play for this pot, leading for 1,800. Sidelkovskiy made a swift fold.
