Masashi Oya Leads the Way into Day 3 of the €25,000 High Roller

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Masashi Oya
Masashi Oya

The 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte Carlo at Sporting Monte-Carlo continued today with an action-filled Day 2 of the €25,000 High Roller. Over the Day 1 flight yesterday, up until the conclusion of late registration this morning, a massive 247 entrants made up this prestigious high roller. After ten levels of play, only 24 found a bag for the Day 3 restart tomorrow morning.

A prize pool of €5,930,470 was generated ensuring the 24 finalists a payday of €58,700, but all eyes remain focused on the gold PokerStars shard and the first-place prize of €1,253,070.

As the dust settled, Masashi Oya bagged the overall chip lead, taking through an impressive total of 1,290,000 for tomorrow's finale. Oya is the first and only player to have eclipsed the one million chip mark.

Oya put on a clinical performance from start to finish, showing the poker world exactly why he deserves to play at the highest of stakes. Not afraid to collide in big pots with fellow chip leader Daniel Rezaei time and time again, Oya quickly solidified himself as one of the biggest stacks in the room, right from the word "go".

Team PokerStars:

The PokerStars team were out in force with a total of six ambassadors and Team Pro members alike taking to the felt this morning. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for either Andre Akkari, Alejandro Lococo and Sam Grafton, who were all eliminated before the money. Grafton was eliminated in a particularly brutal fashion as his two pair fell short to the straight of Leon Sturm.

Though the campaign for PokerStars Team Pro to lift the trophy is far from over with Rafael Moraes (420,000), Ramon Colillas (315,000), and streamer Elias Gutierrez (540,000) all making the money and progressing to Day 3.

Bubble Time:

With a minimum cash of €51,000 on the line, a lengthy bubble was to be anticipated. However, no one could have predicted that the stone bubble would go on to last two and a half hours.

Eventual bubble boy Aliaksandr Shylko, who was left short after paying off Oya’s straight, was virtually forced all in blind for his remaining 3,000, ultimately falling short to the second pair of Shyngis Satubayev.

The remaining 24 players will return tomorrow, on Saturday May 4th, at 12:00 p.m. local time. Action will resume at Level 21 with blinds of 10,000/15,000 with a 15,000 big blind ante.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for the coverage of this event from the moment cards are in the air until a winner is crowned tomorrow.

Shyngis Satubayev: QQ All in

Satubayev Busts Shylko on Bubble

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Aliaksandr Shylko
Aliaksandr Shylko

Aliaksandr Shylko was under the gun with only 3,000 left, and he flicked his chips in before the cards were dealt so that he would be eligible to win the big blind ante, rather than waiting to be forced all-in in the big blind and being unable to pay the ante.

Action folded to Daniel Rezaei, who had been making hay on the bubble, and he raised to 35,000. Shyngis Satubayev was in the big blind and he queried with the floor what would happen if he busted in the same hand as Shylko. He was informed that as they were at the same table, the player with the higher starting stack would take the higher place finish. On hearing this, Satubayev called.

On the 6102 flop, Rezaei led out with a bet of 20,000 and Satubayev called.

The Q rolled off on the turn, and Rezaei slowed down, checking to his opponent. Satubayev fired out a bet of 25,000, but Rezaei wasn't going anywhere and called.

The 5 completed the board and was checked through.

Aliaksandr Shylko showed 24 for a pair of deuces, Rezaei had 104 for a pair of tens, but Satubayev had 109 for a pair of tens with the better kicker, sending him the pot, and sending the unfortunate Shylko to the rail empty handed.

All remaining players are now guaranteed a minimum payout of €51,000.

Oya Bests Rezaei

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Masashi Oya
Masashi Oya

Daniel Rezaei opened to 20,000 and was called by Masashi Oya and Eric Sfez in the blinds.

The J99 flop was checked to Rezaei, who slid out a bet of 20,000. Oya then check-raised to 60,000, Sfez folded and Rezaei called.

On the K turn, Oya fired again, putting out a bet of 65,000. Rezaei again called.

The 2 river completed the board, and Oya fired out a bet of 280,000.

Rezaei went deep into the tank, burning through six time banks before eventually folding, claiming he had queen-jack.

Nemeth Leaves Ju Short on Bubble

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Andras Nemeth
Andras Nemeth

Action was folded to Samuel Ju in the small blind, who raised to 35,000. Andras Nemeth called in the big blind.

On the K59 flop, Ju continued with a bet of 25,000 and Nemeth called.

The 5 rolled off on the turn to pair the board, and Ju checked. Nemeth put out a bet of 65,000 and Ju called.

The Q river completed the board and Ju checked once more. Nemeth wasn't prepared to slow down, and slid out a bet of 225,000, the vast majority of Ju's remaining stack.

After a great deal of thought, and burning through two time banks, Ju flicked in a calling chip, only to be shown the bad news when Nemeth turned over 54 for the turned trip fives. Ju mucked his hand and Nemeth raked in a big pot.

Kings Cracked by Case Ace to Start Hand for Hand Play

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Felipe Boianovsky
Felipe Boianovsky

Artur Martirosian raised to 18,000 from under the gun, Lander Lijo three-bet to 48,000 in the hijack and Felipe Boianovsky cold-four bet to 88,000. Kuljinder Sidhu, on the button, called off the bet for his remaining 86,000. Martirosian folded and Lijo called.

Lijo and Boianovsky checked it down and the final board read 623A10.

Kuljinder Sidhu: KK All in
Felipe Boianovsky: AQ
Lander Lijo: AQ

Sidhu's kings were cracked sending him to the rail as Lijo and Boianovsky chopped the pot. Martirosian later told the table he also folded an ace, meaning the ace on the turn was, in fact, the last in the deck.

With 32 players remaining and 31 being paid, the tournament is now playing hand for hand.

Rezaei Puts Heath in Blender

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ben Heath
Ben Heath

Ben Heath opened to 16,000 under the gun and was met with a three-bet to 28,000 by Daniel Rezaei in middle position. Action folded back to Heath, who called.

Heath check-called a bet of 9,000 from Rezaei on the J32 flop.

The 7 rolled off on the turn, and Heath check-called a small bet of 12,000 from Rezaei.

The K landed on the river, and Heath checked once more. Rezaei thought momentarily before announcing he was all in, easily covering Heath.

Heath chuckled to himself, checked his cards a couple of times and considered the spot for a minute or so. He then folded, shaking his head as he did so.

As Rezaei raked in the pot, he looked at his opponent, smiled and said "Pleased to not get snapped by a flush."

Heath responding "That was a weird f***ing hand, man."
