The 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte Carlo series, running at the stunning Sporting Monte-Carlo venue on the French Riviera, continues today with Day 1b of the €5,300 EPT Main Event. The second and final starting flight kicks off today at midday, giving players one more opportunity to make it through.
Day 1a attracted 393 entries, which topped last year's figures by exactly 30 entries. The prize pool by the end of the flight was €2,580,200 and has already grown to over €3 million including those who had registered for Day 1b.
Spanish poker player and streamer Elias Gutierrez topped the first flight, bagging an impressive 336,000 chips, while Rania Nasreddine claimed second place with 302,000. They have the counts to chase as action begins today.
Previous champions in the Monte Carlo Main Event include Dutch poker legend Rob Hollink, won the first edition of this event in 2005, Gavin Griffin, Mohsin Charania, Adrian Mateos, Manig Loeser, and last year's champion Mike Watson, who claimed €749,425 for his victory.

Back to Day 1b, where players will begin the tournament with a 30,000 starting stack. The flight will run for ten 60-minute levels, with a 20-minute break every two levels and a 75-minute dinner break at the end of Level 6. Two entries maximum are allowed across both starting flights, with late registration open until the start of Day 2 on Tuesday, April 30.

The flop came Q♠2♠5♥. Lebedev checked and Abakirov continued for 300, which Lebedev called. The turn was the K♦ and both players checked.
The river fell the 6♠ and Lebedev took the lead with a bet of 1,000. Abakirov called and Lebedev showed K♥9♥ for a pair of kings. Abakirov mucked and Lebedev took the early pot.

Action was on the flop on a board of 7♠10♥9♠. Julien Sitbon checked and Jason Wheeler put out a bet before Sitbon check-raised to 1,300. Wheeler wasn't ready to give up and called the bet.
The turn was the 5♥. Sitbon lead for 2,000 and Wheeler glanced up before raising to 6,800. Sitbon had a little think before mucking his hand and scratching his head, giving Wheeler the pot.

Vlado Banicevic opened to 300 in middle position before Owen Dodd announced a three-bet to 700 in the cutoff. Action folded back around to Banicevic, who made the call.
The Q♥6♦9♥ flop saw Banicevic check to Dodd, who continued for 700. The call was made to the 3♥ turn, where Banicevic checked again.
Dodd slid out a bet of 2,200, taking down an early pot after Banicevic mucked.

The flop came J♦9♥4♥. Adel Najeeb continued for 600 and Pihela called. Both players then checked back on the 2♠ turn. The river was the 8♦ and both players checked again. Najeed had A♣K♣ and Pihela had 3♦3♥ for a pair of treys to win the pot.
