Rantala's Terrible Start Continues as Rutherford Doubles

Heads-up on a flop of Q2J, Timothy Rutherford bet 23,000 from the button before Eero Rantala raised to 52,000 in middle position. Rutherford called to see the 8 turn.

Rantala then moved all in and Rutherford called for 136,000. Rantala showed AQ for top pair, but Rutherford had KK. The river was the 10 and Rutherford doubled up while Rantala, who began the day in the top five on the leaderboard, dropped down to around 80,000.

Nixon Raises the River

Jamil Wakil opened to 11,000 form the cutoff and was three-bet to 30,000 by Jamie Nixon on the button. It was folded back to Wakil, who called.

Both players checked on the KQ10 flop and then Wakil led out for 15,000 on the J turn. Nixon called.

The 6 completed the board and Wakil bet 10,000. Nixon cut out a raise to 45,000 and placed it into the middle, which got a quick fold from Wakil.

Middleton Rivers Flush to Chip Up

Tom Middleton opened to 11,000 with the AJ from an early position, Alexander van der Swaluw called with the KQ and so did Salvatore Camarda in the small blind with the 66. Benjamin Spragg also came along in the big blind with the 7 showing.

The 852 flop was checked to Middleton and he bet 25,000 into 49,000. Van der Swaluw folded, Camarda called and Spragg folded. The 8 turn paired the board and Camarda checked, as did Middleton, who then hit the 7 river to make the ace-high flush.

Camarda opted to lead for 16,000 but Middleton raised to 95,000 to force out the italian.

Danchev Stabs the River

The pot stood at 35,000 with three players looking at a flop of 984.

Both the blinds checked the action to Ramzi Karam, in early position. Karam bet out 12,000 and only Dimitar Danchev called in the small blind.

The 9 turn checked through to the 5 on the river. Danchev took the lead for 65,000 and Karam was forced to fold.

Jorgne's Hopes For Another Run Come Down to a Classic Flip

Peter Jorgne raised to 10,000 in middle position and Barny Boatman called in the hijack. Eero Rantala three-bet to 35,000 on the button and Jorgne four-bet to 135,000. Boatman got out of the way, but Rantala moved all in and Jorgne called for 324,000.

Cameras swarmed around the table as last year's runner-up needed to win this classic flip to stay alive. The flop came J3K and he spiked a king to take the lead. The 6 turn was safe, while the A river improved Jorgne to two pair and he doubled up.

O'Neill Among the Early Casualties

Boatman Calls Rantala Down

Barny Boatman opened to 10,000 from the hijack and was three-bet to 32,000 by Eero Rantala on the button. Action folded back to Boatman, who called.

Boatman proceeded to check-call Rantala down on every street. First for 36,000 on the 887 flop, then for 63,000 on the 4 turn, and finally for 100,000 on the 5 river. Rantala could only show KJ and Boatman turned over 66 for a straight and was sent the pot.

"The river made it easier, but I had already decided [to call]," Boatman said.

Over on the live stream table, Mehdi Merai was all-in before the flop for 111,000 and so was the severe short Nicola D'Anselmo, who had dropped to just 8,000.

The pot stood at approximately 33,000 with two players looking at a doubled paired board of 232KK.

Diego Montone, in the big blind, bet out for 15,000. Boris Angelov, in the hijack, made a swift call. Montone tabled 98 for nine-high, while Angelov claimed this pot with ace-high.
