Katja Comin' At Ya

Katja Thater is looking very confident.

The German lady player is unflustered after her earlier double up from Andreas Hoivold. I just witnessed her picking up several small pots. After the latter of which she flashed pocket Queens to the table.

She's got the poker talent to go with the looks, that's for sure!

Dave Welch's Knock Out

I just had a chat with Dave Welch, the Englishman with a big heart.

Dave is very upset about his elimination. Apparently a player exposed his cards whilst others were still in the hand, this is usually ruled as a dead hand, in England at least. Dave lost the hand after his opponent hit a runner runner straight. As if the bad beat and exit weren't enough for poor Dave, he THEN got a 10 minute penalty for leaving the table early! Perhaps this will run over into the next EPT?

He is now on the rail, cheering on his friend Thomas Osmun.

America part 2

Auto-Matic: Roberto going nowhere
Auto-Matic: Roberto going nowhere
Roberto Matic, he of quad queens fame, has not made any progress but is trundling along with around 60k. He lost a few in a hand against experienced German player Benjamin Kang and they are having plenty of banter between themselves. Kang observing that Matic never surrenders his big blind.

So it was that Kang made a small raise and Matic proved his point by re-raising a little more. Kang called.

Flop {3-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Check, check.
Turn {Q-Hearts}. Check, check.
River {3-Spades}. Small bet, called.

Kang showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, Matic {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

American updates

Thomas Osmun eyes up some more chips
Thomas Osmun eyes up some more chips
One of them anyway. Thomas Osmun is making good progress now up to 125k, talking freely at his table and regularly taking down "small" pots. With blinds and antes worth several thousands, small is maybe not the word at this stage.

An example:

A smaller stack who had just saved his tournament going all-in with {K-Spades}{3-Spades}, and found himself against {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} only to flop the flush, now decided to bet out 10k in the next hand.

Osmun called as did two others. The flop of {Q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} had everyone checking. The turn was another club, {J-Clubs} causing short-stack to bet a tiny 6k from his 30k stack. Either he was trapping or not confident. Osmun made his mind up for him by going all-in before the other two players had even acted! Fold, fold, fold, and Osmun takes another pot while showing a single {3-Clubs} from his hole cards. He said he had a "baby flush".
