We do not get official counts during the day's play so today's updates will necessarily be estimates. The casino is a tight affair and the numbers of press and cameras is getting bigger. As tables fold, it will become a scrummage, so bear with us.

Hopefully the internet connection will hold up all day at the hotel.

Day 2 Seating Highlights

We've got some very exciting table line-ups today. Some of the highlights include:

Table 5. Simon Kelly, who is nursing a small stack, faces Ross Boatman and Katja Thater alongside several scandinavian players.

Table 6. Jani Sointula, Paul Testud, ElkY (Bertrand Grospellier) and Kevin Love are part of a seven handed affair here.

Table 9. Juha Helppi faces Mikael Westerlund, Jim Kerrigan and John Conroy.

Big stack, Henning Granstad, is seated on Table 10. Ben 'Milkybarkid' Grundy takes seat 3 on Table 8. David Welch is on Table 11.

We're playing down to the final table tonight.

All action from the start

Patric Martensson looks on as Farid Meragni scoops a pot
Patric Martensson looks on as Farid Meragni scoops a pot
Players are already dropping like flies and the action is fierce, especially on table 11 where David Welch told us three have busted out from his table alone. Welch himself is now "freerolling" (in his own words) after a narrow escape:

Welch in seat 1 made it 5k to go. Soren Kongsgaard Nielsen reraised his remaining 12k. Welch said afterwards he was going to call this but seat 3, Farid Meragni, called the all-in bet. That persuaded Welch to fold his pair of tens.

The cards came over {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for Nielsen and {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for Meragni who dominated.

The flop was {3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. No help for Nielsen.
The turn was {J-Diamonds}. Now Nielsen was ahead.
River {9-Diamonds}!! Meragni makes his flush and Nielsen has gone.

David Welch is grateful to Meragni for his preflop call and survives with a manageable stack. Meragni collected an additional 17k or thereabouts. He has had some good early cards having flopped a set with 44 earlier on and is now comfortable.

Andreas Hoivold doubles up Katja Thater

Andreas Hoivold just doubled up Katja Thater.

Katja raised it to 5,500, one from the button. Hoivold pondered for a moment before removing his Mickey Mouse card protector and re-raising to 12,500. Katja instantly moved all-in for around 22,000 in total. Andreas looked pained but called anyway.

Katja showed {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Andreas showed {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

The flop of {4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Spades} was no help for Andreas.

The turn of {J-Diamonds} killed any hopes for Hoivod and returned Katja to her seat with a very playable stack of around 44,000. I missed the river but Katja was not for catching in this hand!

Hoivold is not exactly on the felt after that hand but it could be a turning point, in the wrong direction, for the Dortmund champ'.

Players are dropping rapidly. We're now down to 78 players today.
