For the 11th straight season the European Poker Tour has found its way to London, arguably the poker capital of Europe and home to some of the finest players in the world. Today the Main Event kicks off and over the two starting days a big field of poker's elite's expected to show up to battle it out for the title and a mountain of British pounds!

Last year, in the 10th season of the EPT, the title went to Swedish pro Robin Ylitalo who beat a field of 604 players and walked away £560,980 ($909,574) richer. At the final table Ylitalo beat a tough field that included Jeff Rossiter and Norwegian legend Jan Sjavik.

The Main Event will run until Saturday when the final table will be streamed on a delay with hole cards up. Throughout this week PokerNews.com will be right here with you to bring you all the action from he felt at the Grand Connaught Rooms in central London.

Dutch Legends Enter The Game

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jorryt van Hoof is without a doubt the hottest commodity in poker right now as the Dutchman leads the World Series of Poker Main Event final table. The biggest final table of the year is just a few weeks away and Van Hoof has chosen to get some more practice in here in London.

Van Hoof already played the £5,000 pot-limit omaha tournament earlier this week and he also confirmed to be playing the £10,000 High Roller later this week in the event of an early elimination from the Main Event.

Alongside Van Hoof was saw a legend of the game in the Netherlands, Rob Hollink, enter the room. Hollink was the first ever Dutch WSOP bracelet winner in 2008 when he won the $10,000 Limit Hold'em Championship, and he also won the first ever EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo for €635,000 back in 2005.

Hollink hasn't played in many events in recent years and it's great to see him down in London for one of the most prestigious tournaments on the poker calendar.

Mercier Runs Into Two Pair

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

An early positioned Jason Mercier raised the action to 225, finding calls from Mateusz Zbikowski in the cutoff as well as the player in the big blind.

The trio took a flop of {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades} and action checked back to the PokerStars Team Pro. He continued out for 375, Zbikowski called, and the player in the big blind let his cards go. The dealer produced the {9-Diamonds} on fourth street and Mercier continued his aggression with a bet of 1,000. Zbikowski quickly flung out a call, allowing the {a-Hearts} to drop down on the river. Mercier slowed with a check, prompting Zbikowski to sit motionless for a moment. Ultimately, Zbikowski reached for chips and dropped 725 into the center of the table.

Mercier called and watched on as Zbikowski tabled {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a flopped two pair. Mecier tossed his hand into the muck and Zbikowski was pushed the pot.

On a {4-Hearts}{A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{A-Clubs} board we saw Fatima Moreira de Melo bet 725 and the player on her left called after which Niall Farrell folded. The river was the {A-Diamonds} and Moreira de Melo checked to her opponent who quickly checked behind.

The PokerStars SportStar showed {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and she raked in a small pot at the start of the day.
