Coren Mitchell's Straight Takes It

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Ole Schemion made it 800 to go from late position and found calls from both Victoria Coren Mitchell on the button and the player in the small blind. The trio took a three-heart flop of {9-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. There were two checks around to Coren Mitchell on the button and she tossed out 1,100. The small blind folded and Schemion stayed around.

The turn brought a fourth heart to the board with the {5-Hearts}. Schemion checked once more and Coren Mitchell knocked the table back. The {K-Diamonds} finished the community cards and two more checks prompted a showdown.

"I have a straight," said Coren Mitchell. "I made a straight on the turn."

She tabled {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a straight to the nine and Schemion was unable to beat it. He mucked his cards and the two-time EPT Main Event champion was pushed the pot.

Coren Mitchell Keeps Adding

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Victoria Coren Mitchell
Victoria Coren Mitchell

Victoria Coren Mitchell has been playing an above average number of pots today and when she opened from early positon for 850 recently she saw one player test her mettle with a three-bet to 2,300. The blinds folded and Coren Mitchell put out the calling chips.

They went heads up to a flop of {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and Coren Mitchell checked before she complained in mock displeasure about the groans of pleasure the player next to her was emitting as he received a massage. That got a laugh from the table, except from her opponent who bet 1,800. Coren Mitchell called the bet and they both checked the turn card {8-Hearts}.

When the river fell the {8-Clubs} Coren Mitchell changed tack and led out for 3,500. This seemed to confuse her opponent who checked his cards, seemed on the verge of folding, but in the end decided to look her up. Coren Mitchell turned over the {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} which was good for the win and the extra value extracted on the end.

Jensen Jumps Up After Dinner

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

The former EPT Madrid winner, Frederik Jensen, was already having quite a nice day, but it just got a whole lot better. Besides a nice stack in the Main Event Jensen already cashed in the UKIPT High Roller, where he finished third for £52,200.

On the very first hand after dinner the action folded to Jensen in the small blind and he raised to 1,450. The player on his left, Simon Brooks, called and the flop brought out {K-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} on which Jensen bet 1,300.

Brooks made the call again and on the turn the {6-Diamonds} hit and Jensen bet 2,500. Brooks made the call again and the river was the {Q-Hearts}.

Jensen now bet 5,500 and Brooks raised it up to 11,000 with about 25,000 chips left behind. The Dane proceeded to move all in after which Brooks went into the tank for about six minutes. Jensen eventually called the clock and Brooks called about 30 seconds later.

Jensen showed {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and Brooks flashed his {6-Spades}{2-Spades} before leaving the tournament room a dream shorter than he came in with.

Watts Races Alner Out the Door

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Steve Watts
Steve Watts

Steven Watts opened the action and when Tom Alner shoved on him for 13,500 Watts didn’t like it but after agonising over the size of the bet decided he wanted to play and made the call. If he lost the hand he wouldn’t have done too much damage to his stack and as it was he was fairly pleased when he saw his {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} line up against the {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} of Alner.

Watts was even happier when the flop came {2-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and the turn {9-Spades} and river {j-Hearts} saw him stay ahead to bust Alner.

Vagner Doubles Through Schemion

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Victoria Coren Mitchell opened to 1,200 from under the gun and it folded around to Stefan Vagner on the button. Vagner three-bet shipped all in for what looked to be 7,700. Ole Schemion was in the small blind and moved all in over the top, prompting both the big blind and Coren Mitchell to fold. The cards were tabled with Vagner's tournament life on the line.

Vagner: {Q-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Schemion: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The flop came down {Q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades}, pairing Vagner's queen and giving him the lead in the hand. Schemion could not retake the lead with the {8-Diamonds} on the turn or the {A-Hearts} on the river, ensuring Vagner's renewed life in the tournament. Schemion, on the other hand, dropped to 16,500 in chips.

Nitsche Has Options

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Not long before the dinner break Dominik Nitsche was down to five big blinds. No longer, as operation spin-up is well and truly under way.

Nitsche opened the action and Steven Watts in the small blind three-bet to 2,950. Nitsche moved all in and once Watts checked how much more it was he felt priced in enough to call with his {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and see he had Nitsche’s tournament life at risk holding {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}.

The cards ran out {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{k-Spades}{9-Spades} and Nitsche was back to just under starting stack. The player to his left told him that he now had more options and Nitsche replied that he would probably just lose a few more chips again and revert to going all in preflop as that seemed to be the only thing working for him today.
