Dominik Nitsche is back in the hunt for glory today after a successful, but ultimately disappointing, day yesterday.
The three-time WSOP Bracelet winner led the €2k IPT High Roller for most of the day and held the lofty position as the final table started. It wasn't to be though for Nitsche; he lost his chip lead and had kings beaten by ace-ten to get back to the summit. He eventually finished fourth for €63,000 so stills lots to be cheery about.
Gereon Sowa raised to 300 just before the end of level 1 and received three callers in Jan Bendik, Fabio Sperling as well as Emil Patel in the big blind. On a flop of , Patel led for 900 and was called by Sowa before Bendik raised to 2,500. Sperling folded and the three of them headed to the turn.
This time the action was checked to Bendik, who bet 5,800. Only Patel called and then checked the river once again. Bendik wasted little time before tossing in a bet of 11,000 and Patel tanked for a mere three minutes. Time was called on him and he eventually mucked.
Besides the Main Event Day 1b, there's a whole lot more going on in the Portomaso Casino at the moment. At 11:00 this morning the penultimate satellite for the Main Event started with a €550 buy-in and the option to rebuy/add-on. That's downstairs in the back of the room. We just saw Mateusz Moolhuizen, who cashed no less than five times in the EPT Vienna event last year, giving it a try in that event.
Also, in that very same room, is a €5,000 rebuy tournament. Just 12 players registered for that event. Amongst those players are Timothy Adams and Sam Greenwood. No players have busted or re bought in that event yet, its underway just fifteen minutes now.
At 4 p.m. local time the last satellite for the Main Event starts, and at 8 p.m. a €2,000 turbo begins that will finish the same day.

On a board of we just saw Craig McCorkell check call a bet of 450.
McCorkell, seated in the hijack, checked again when the dealer put the on the table. His opponent seated on the button, made a bet of 2,200. McCorkell thought for just a bit before calling. The button showed and McCorkell mucked.
Nikolaus Teichert is squeezed in between Mike "Timex" McDonald and Dany Parlafes whereas Fraser MacIntyre is looking for yet another deep run on Malta after finishing 42nd in the record-breaking IPT Main Event yesterday. The Scottish finished runner-up to Frederik Jensen at the EPT 8 Madrid Main Event.
Yann "yadio" Dion raised to 300 and received two callers in the blinds, heading to a flop of . The continuation bet of the Canadian for 550 was check-called by the player in the small blind and the opponent from one seat over then check-raised to 1,500. Only Dion called and the turn was checked down.
As the fell on the river, the player in the big blind bet 1,075 and that was too much for Dion.
Daniel Pidun, who took down EPT 9 Berlin for €880,000, just enforced a fold from his opponent and then showed king-high. Arriving on the river of a turn, the player in the big blind as well as Pidun checked and the pot was already around 3,500 in chips.
Then, the river saw a bet of 1,400 by the opponent of the German and Pidun raised to 3,600. The opponent mucked his and was greeted with a "you were good" with Pidun flashing his .
Steve Watts was just seen raising it up under the gun to 250 on his five-handed table. He got a call from the cutoff and the big blind.
All three of them checked the flop and the hit the turn. The big blind lead out for 450 and just Watts made the call, the cutoff folded. The hit the river and both players checked.
The big blind tabled and Watts said his ace-queen was indeed never ever good there. It's, like we said, small pots at the start of the day.
Kate the Dealer, who's now Kate the floor person, had to show her stern side with a lady friend of a player just now.
The lady in question was grinding solitaire on her mobile phone, sat on one of the small side tables, while her man played the Main Event. Kate, doing her job, had to get her to leave the room.
It's nice to see Jason Wheeler playing today. The jovial American had a journey from hell, taking three days to get here, but he has a smile on his face still. Look out for a feature piece on his journey in the coverage later on.
