Today a Very Different Day for Silverman

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Around 24 hours ago, Steven Silverman was busy beating Tony Gregg on his way to claiming the High Roller title. Today he just lost with pocket aces and was eliminated soon after.

Vladimir Troyanovsky left him with five big blinds after he called a raise with five-six and flopped two that turned into a full house on the turn. There was betting on every street before the money went in on the river. Silverman's aces were no good.

A short while after he shoved with king-jack and was called by an opponent with ace-nine. He failed to improve and was out of the door.

Mizzi Sits Down; Doubles

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Patrik Antonious and Sorel Mizzi have sat down and Marvin Rettenmaier must be wishing they never entered after a cooler saw hom lose a huge pot.

Rettenmaier opened to 9,500 from the hijack before Antonious three-bet from the next seat. Mizzi was in the small blind and four-bet to 53,000. The action was back on the German and he shoved, having both players covered. Antonious moved out of the way but Mizzi snap called.

Rettenmaier: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Mizzi: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The board ran {4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts} to improve neither player.

Who Else Has Been Winning At The EPT Grand Final?

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

It’s not all about the Main Event and the ‘little’ and ‘big’ High Rollers. There’s been an enormous schedule running here in Monaco and here’s some of the winners:

On form Paul Volpe beat Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald to pocket €130,050.

Annette Obrestad was beaten to the heads-up trophy by Marijn Van Puffelen.

Brit Matthew Ashton beat Ole Schemion and Luke Schwartz to the cheese in the €5k 8-Game.

Germans Do Battle

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Max Altergott is the latest German to join the field and he wasted little time in battling with his countryman, Philipp Gruissem.

Altergott opened to 8,000 from the cut-off and was called Vladimir Troyanovsky in the next seat before Gruissem squeezed to 26,000 off the button. Both players called to the {j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop where Gruissem continued for 38,000. Only Altergott called to the {2-Spades} turn where both players checked. Altergott led for 42,000 on the {5-Diamonds} river and Gruissem released his hand.

Gruissem got his own back a few hands later after he four-bet to 52,000. He had opened the pot with a 6,000 under-the-gun raise before Dani Stern called and Altergott squeezed to 26,500 from the small blind. Gruissem's four-bet got both opponents to fold.
