The Global Poker x PokerNews Cup is here!
From April 10-30, PokerNews and Global Poker have joined forces to offer an online PokerNews Cup, which will be comprised of 32 exclusive trophies and GC100,000,000 and SC250,000 Finals. What’s more, PokerNews will be offering daily recaps of all the trophy events on Global Poker!
Across the three weeks of the Global Poker x PokerNews Cup, there will be two SC2.2 satellites running each day, with one on the eve of the Qualifier and one a couple of hours before.
Here are some details you should know as you prepare to battle in the Global Poker x PokerNews Cup features:
Players who win qualifying round events, which take place in the first two weeks of the series, are automatically entered into the finals. If you finish in the top 50, you'll move on to the quarterfinals, and if you make the final table, you'll skip right ahead to the semifinals.
The top 90 from the quarterfinals will all advance a step, and then the top 36 from the semis move on to the finals. On April 30, for those who battled for three weeks and are still standing, the finale begins, and this is where all that hard work very well could pay off.
In the finals, Global Poker is contributing the whole prize pool of GC100,000,000 and SC250,000. On top of that, there are numerous other cool prizes for those who win qualifiers and the final round, including some Global Poker x PokerNews swag and a shiny trophy.
It will be interesting to see if a qualifying round winner will end up taking down the finals. Winning a qualifier puts you at an advantage because you don't have to be concerned with trying to advance through other rounds. It's like getting a Fast Pass at Disneyland so you can skip the line and get right on the ride.
That said, the event is a survive-and-advance game. If you make it through each round one way or the other, you'll still have a chance to win the biggest prize — GC40,000,000 or SC100,000.
At Global Poker, you can play for fun with 'Gold Coins' which must be purchased and then used in poker games, or with ‘Sweeps Coins’ which can not be purchased. You can get FREE Sweeps Coins when registering, daily bonuses or getting involved in social media competitions, but you can also get FREE Sweeps Coins when purchasing Gold Coins. Any winnings whilst playing with Sweeps Coins can be redeemed for cash prizes and gift cards.

Global Poker is one of the only options for US and Canada poker players to play social poker online. It is a social casino, which means the game is closely linked to social media and therefore it has a much more ‘social’ feel to it than many other casino sites. You can either play for fun, or play for your chance to redeem cash prizes or more. Either way, you can always play for free.
There is no download needed to play or specific software, you can just play directly on the desktop website which is another great advantage.
So far, so good, but what about Global Poker games? Here’s a quick list of some game types you can expect to see:

We recently announced the formation of the PokerNews Stream Team on Global Poker – check out the latest PokerNews Podcast for more details – and we can confirm that members of that team will both be competing and streaming their action throughout the Global Poker x PokerNews Cup.
Here’s a look at those on the PokerNews Stream Team on Global Poker:
On Monday, April 10, the Global Poker x PokerNews Cup, which runs through April 30 kicked off with the first two tournaments from the 32-trophy-event schedule. Remember, the online series is slated to culminate with GC100,000,000 & SC250,000 Finals, which you can qualify for right now.
The first tournament was the PokerNews Cup Qualifier 01 – GC 4,000,000 GTD, which had an entry of 11,000 Gold Coins (GC). The tournament attracted 436 runners and the winner received entry into the aforementioned GC100,000,000 final, whereas the other final tablists received entry into the PokerNews Cup GC Semifinal, while the 10th-50th place finishers won entry into the PokerNews Cup GC Quarterfinal.
One player that made a deep run was Anthony "AcePoker" Caldiero, who was recently interviewed on the PokerNews Podcast as a member of the new “PokerNews Stream Team” on Global Poker. “AcePoker” nearly took down the first tournament while streaming his play, but ultimately, he fell a few spots short taking fourth place for GC 444,720.
In the end, it was “Allhustlenoluck” besting “Lizzie75” in heads-up play to win the tournament. The former won a prize of GC 821,860, while the latter received a GC 603,860 consolation prize.
The other tournament was the PokerNews Cup Qualifier 01 – SC 10,000 GTD, which had an entry of 11 Sweeps Coins (SC). The tournament attracted a massive 3,315 entrants and the winner received entry into the SC 250,000 Final, whereas the other final tablists received entry into the PokerNews Cup SC Semifinal, while the 10th-50th place finishers won entry into the PokerNews Cup SC Quarterfinal.
The last player standing in that tournament was “Redemption1798”, who defeated “Jayz4dayz72” in heads-up play to win the tournament for SC 5,184.67!

Additionally, “Allhustlenoluck” was slated to receive entry into the GC 100,000,000 final mentioned above, but they already had one from the day before! Furthermore, the other final tablists received entry into the PokerNews Cup GC Semifinal, while the 10th-50th place finishers won entry into the PokerNews Cup GC Quarterfinal.
The other tournament on Tuesday was the PokerNews Cup Qualifier 02 – PLO 6-Max – SC 10,000 GTD, which had a SC 11 entry. It was another massive turnout as 2,073 entrants competed. The winner received entry into the SC 250,000 Final, whereas the other final tablists received entry into the PokerNews Cup SC Semifinal, while the 10th-50th place finishers won entry into the PokerNews Cup SC Quarterfinal.
