Defending Champ On Second Bullet

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Charles Maxcy
Charles Maxcy

Defending HPO Toledo Champion, Charles Maxcy made a deep run in Day 1a, but came up short when he ran pocket tens into the {a-}{k-} of HPO Ambassador Chris Moneymaker.

Maxcy is in the field today and hoping to put the past behind him. Maxcy was very active yesterday, and a little unpredictable.

On one hand, he bet the river in a three-way pot with one player all in. Nicholas Guagenti folded and left Maxcy heads up with the all in player.

Maxcy said he thought he had trips, but instead showed nine high, which was just barely good enough to eliminate his opponent who had eight high. Maxcy's style definitely incites action, so it should be fun to see what he gets up to today.

Early Action, Golub Down Early

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Josip Golub and Jinghao Xu just played a pot for all their chips, after which Golub was left with about 6,000.

The board read {3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{k-Hearts} and the action checked to Golub on the button. He bet 800 and one player called. Then Xu raised, making it 6,200. Golub took a moment, then went all in. The other player folded before Xu called.

Xu had the best of it with {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a wheel and Golub was drawing dead with {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Xu has been pretty active early and after doubling up has a little less than 30,000

Mark Nienow

Mark Nienow busted last night on a hand that shot Lance Howard to the chip lead. Nienow opened shoved a jack-high flop and two players called. By the end of the hand, Howard held the nut flush and that spelled the end of Nienow's day.

Nienow is a recreational player who lives about an hour away. He graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison and is also a Navy Veteran. He has taken his seat in Day 1b and will be looking to improve on yesterday's performance.
