Chris Moneymaker Just Spiked a One-Out Miracle on the River to Survive
Chris Moneymaker Just Spiked a One-Out Miracle on the River to Survive

We heard an excited murmuring over at Chris Moneymaker's table, and the 2003 WSOP Main Event champion could be seen pacing near his seat, hand on his head in a pose reminiscent of his many final table sweats during that miraculous run 10 years ago.

"One out huh?" asked Moneymaker with exasperation. "Hit a one outter."

To all the world it appeared Moneymaker had been done in by an especially dirty beat, but after a quick scan of the situation it turned out that one-out save came through for the champ.

According to Moneymaker and tablemate Timothy Little, the HPO Ambassador four-bet jammed with {K-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and was called in one spot by {A-Hearts}{k-Clubs}.

Flop: {a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

The flop put Moneymaker on the brink of elimination, coming ace high to put his premium pocket pair in a deep hole. With a king already face up on the table, Moneymaker was dead to the case cowboy. The turn came down {5-Spades} to keep Moneymaker on the brink of elimination, but when the {k-Spades} arrived on the river, the muted celebration of a pro who has been there before began.

"I haven't been lucky at all yet in this thing, had to happen once," said the champ with a smile, obviously savoring the moment.

When it Rains... it Pours

Level 8 : 300/600, 50 ante

We apologize once more for the lack of updates in the last hour, as the ongoing thunderstorms outside here in Charles Town, West Virginia appear to be hampering connectivity within the venue.

The updates will begin flowing again on their regular schedule just as soon as conditions permit.

Iron Mike

Level 8 : 300/600, 50 ante

A player limped in from under the gun and when the action moved to him, Mike Anderson shoved all in for a huge overbet of 14,425.

The table folded around to Juan Carlos Garivaldi in the small blind, who tanked for nearly two minutes before looking Anderson up with {K-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

"I just have ace-king..." said Anderson.

"That's good..." replied Garivaldi as he tabled his dominated hand.

"I know it is," drawled Anderson. "But it won't be, you watch."

Despite damning himself to doom before the flop, the board rolled out {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} to keep his big slick out in front, and Anderson doubled up to keep himself in contention midway through this opening day of play.

Bradley Yazici Back in the Game

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Bradley Yazici
Bradley Yazici

After taking down top honors at the 2014 Hollywood Poker Open Grantville Regional Championship in early in March, Bradley Yazici is here today looking for his second big score of the month.

Yazici was riding a short stack during the first few orbits after dinner break, but eventually he woke up with {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} and watched as four players limped in for 500 each.

With the action on him, Yazici wasted no time in heaping his stack forward, and his last 7,950 chips were put at risk. A lone limper looked Yazici up with {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, but the board ran out clean, coming {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to keep the fishhooks out in front.

Yazici doubled back to just over the starting stack, giving him 40 big blinds with which to mount an attempt at his second HPO Regional Championship title of the season.

Moneymaker the Multitasker

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Chris Moneymaker is Playing the Game Within the Game
Chris Moneymaker is Playing the Game Within the Game

After a torrid start to the day saw Chris Moneymaker surge above the 100,000-chip plateau early on, the 2003 WSOP Main Event champion experienced a bit of a reversal, as evidenced by the following tweet:

Chris MoneymakerFrom 100k to 40k last 2 levels. Need to tighten up. @hwpokeropen

After vowing to tighten up after the dinner break concluded, Moneymaker took down a pot early in Level 7 to keep climbing.

The board read {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} by the turn and Moneymaker had a 2,000 bet in front of him. After a brief tank, his opponent decided to see the river and he flatted to see the {10-Clubs} rain down.

Moneymaker never took his gaze from the Clash of Clans game he was feverishly playing throughout the hand, using one hand to send his virtual minions into battle, while using the other to fire out a 4,100 bet.

The other player quickly surrendered, just as Moneymaker pushed his forces through the gates of his online enemy, and without moving his eyes from the screen, the champ collected another pot without a showdown.
