Hollywood Poker Open Championship Rolls On with Day 2 at 11 a.m.

Welcome to Day 2 of the Hollywood Poker Open Season 4 $2,500 Championship Event.

After the two starting days were completed on Thursday and Friday, a field of 636 entries has been tallied. With registration and reentry allowed until the start of Day 2 at 11 a.m. local time here at M Resort Spa Casino in Las Vegas, a handful more should be added to the mix. The prize pool is already over $1.4 million, and another first-place prize of nearly $350,000 should be up for grabs.

Over 200 players survived for Day 2, with Day 1a's Frank Patti in the lead. He bagged up 252,900 in chips and will be trailed closest by Dan Smith from Day 1b with 243,300. And while there are plenty of big names and notable faces that will be joining them when the cards are in the air, the story so far has been the booming start for Ray Cuny.

Cuny bagged a hefty 199,900 in chips on Friday's Day 1b. He's a 91-year-old from Aurora, Illinois who won his entry via a qualifier at his local Hollywood Casino Joliet. He's been playing cards since he was a kid, but this event has a bit of extra special meaning for the longtime poker enthusiastic as Cuny was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer. Not one to let his spirits get down, Cuny made the trip to Las Vegas and is showing that a lot is possible with a positive mindset and a decent run of cards.

With a Day 2 table draw that includes Dan Singular, Joseph Cheong, and Andrey Pateychuk, Cuny will have his work cut out for him, but he showed on Day 1b that he has what it takes to tangle with the best of them.

Other big stacks to start Day 2 include Javier Gomez (224,700), Cory Bogert (222,000), Alex Lynskey (210,600), Calvin Anderson (210,200), Randal Flowers (209,900), Michael Aron (207,500), and Pavel Veksler (197,000). Some of those more towards the middle of the pack are Dan O'Brien (100,800), Aaron Mermelstein (88,000), David "Doc" Sands (87,500), and Ankush Mandavia (77,400).

The cards will be in the air at 11 a.m. local time, with the plan to play another 11 levels or until the final table has been reached. Once registration closes and tournament organizers tally the field size and prize pool numbers, we'll relay that information to you.

Delong Takes Some From Neuville and Blumenfield

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Neil Blumenfield and Pierre Neuville made the World Series of Poker Main Event final table last year, and finished third and seventh respectively. Today Neuville and Blumenfield are sitting side by side in this event, but neither of them managed to win the hand we just watched.

Pierre Neuville limped under the gun - which may or may not have been incidental, as Neuville didn't seem to happy about it - and Bluemnfield called from his direct left. Jonathan Delong raised to 3,500 from middle position and both Neuville and Blumenfield called.

The flop brought out {Q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Neuville checked to Blumenfield who bet 5,000, and only Delong called.

On the turn the {5-Spades} hit and both players checked. The river brought out the {10-Clubs} and Blumenfield lead out for 7,500 and Delong called once again.

Blumenfield showed {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and Delong turned over {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} to rake in this pot.

Get Shorty

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Shorty busted, taking the walk of shame before another did the same. Hollywood Poker Open Director Bill Bruce then took to the microphone to pass on a little information.

Turns out there were 11 people buying before the opening bell and close of registration. Add in seven no-show qualifiers whose buy-ins still get put into the prize pool and the total number of entries is up to 665.

That means a $1,477,025 prize pool was created that will pay 63 spots. A min-cash is a little more than double the entry at $5,317, while Hollywood Poker Open glory and a $332,338 first prize sits up top.

Jain Sends One Home

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

A short-stacked player moved all in for his last 8,500 chips and the action folded to Shashank Jain who tanked for a bit before he three-bet, and that got all the other players to fold right away.

Jain: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {6-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{A-Spades} and Jain raked in the pot to send another one home.

It's Ray Day

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Ray Cuny
Ray Cuny

Big stack Ray Cuny raised it up under gun and got one caller in James Gettinger, who had almost as many chips to start the hand. They went heads up to a {7-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop with about 16,000 in the pot, and with a wink and a smile, the 91-year-old Cuny jammed all in.

Gettinger had the {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, and made the call for his whole 160,000-chip stack. Cuny was on a flush draw, holding the {k-Spades}{q-Spades}, and looked to be in trouble when the {3-Hearts} turn left him just one more chance to hit it.

The {2-Spades} did the trick, though, and while Gettinger hit the rail, Cuny was suddenly vaulted into a huge chip lead as the first player past 300,000 and counting.
