Itoafa Makes Queens Up

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The hijack opened to 2,500 and received calls from the player on the button as well as Mike Itoafa in the big blind. The flop fell {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Itoafa checked. The hijack made a continuation-bet of 2,500 and the player on the button folded. Itoafa made the call and the turn came {7-Clubs}. Both players checked.

The dealer burned and turned the river {q-Spades} and Itoafa made a bet of 7,000. His opponent found a call.

Itoafa showed {q-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for a rivered two pair, queens up. His opponent asked to confirm the hand and proceeded to muck, saying she had him (prior to the river).

Frei Eliminated by Johnson's Quads

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Aaron Frei
Aaron Frei

There was four-way action on the river with a board reading {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Jason Johnson bet 6,000. Aaron Frei was on his direct left and shoved all in for around 38,000. The two remaining players in the hand, the cutoff and big blind both folded and Johnson quickly called.

Frei tabled {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs} for aces up with a jack kicker.

"Oh, quads?!" he said as Johnson showed {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} at almost the same exact time, showing four of a kind and eliminating Frei from the tournament shortly after the dinner break and the close of registration for the tournament.

Gutfreund's Boat Sank By O'Toole's

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Dave Gutfreund
Dave Gutfreund

Dave Gutfreund communicated that Michael O'Toole had a hand history to share for a pot that had a lot of chips in it, saying it was too painful to recount himself.

According to O'Toole with a little help from tablemate Ryan Dodson, Gutfreund opened to 3,500 from the hijack and O'Toole called out of the small blind. The two saw a flop of {a-}{j-}{8-}-rainbow and O'Toole check-raised Gutfreund's continuation-bet. Gutfreund called.

On the turn {4-Diamonds}, O'Toole fired 19,000 into the middle and Gutfreund raised to 60,000. O'Toole shoved for around 140,000 with Gutfreund calling for around 120,000 effective.

Dave Gutfreund: {8-}{8-}
Michael O'Toole: {a-}{j-}

The two players found themselves in a huge pot between a flopped set versus top two pair. O'Toole had four outs to improve to a full house and hit the {a-} on the river to go Greenstein on Gutfreund and send him to the rail. Meanwhile, O'Toole finds himself at or near the top of the leaderboard with a stack that is closing in on 300,000.
