Grise in Great Shape Late in Day 2

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

The board was out showing {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, and the small blind bet 35,000 into a pot of 65,000. Ben Grise raised to 120,000 and the small blind tanked before finally making the call.

Grise showed him the {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for the full house, which put him very good shape late in Day 2.

Friedman Lays it Down to Cramer

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

On a flop that read {8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Clubs}, Adam Friedman bet 36,000 in a four-way pot. Two players folded to Spenser Cramer who raised it up to about 140,000. Friedman cut out the call to go to the turn.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and Cramer moved all in for 314,000.

Friedman immediately looked torn by the decision and went deep into the tank. He played with his chips and asked for a count while trying to suss out his opponent. Eventually he laid it down and asked for Cramer to show, to which Cramer did not oblige.

Get to Know Reigning HPT Player of the Year Aaron Johnson

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Aaron Johnson
Aaron Johnson

One of the best stories of 2018 was the incredible year of Minnesota’s Aaron Johnson. Back in May, PokerNews spoke with Johnson about leading the Player of the Year races on both Season 9 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) and Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Season XIV.

Over the next seven months, Johnson maintained his lead on the MSPT, and while he lost the HPT lead for a bit, he ultimately ended with it thanks to a deep run in the season finale. That allowed Johnson to become the first player to ever win POY titles on two different tours in the same year.

For doing so, Johnson won a $10,000 prize package for each tour.

“It feels amazing,” Johnson told PokerNews. “Coming into the year I certainly wanted to make a run at MSPT POY (which has always been a goal of mine), but I never imagined that I’d be in contention for multiple POY titles. To actually achieve it is unreal.”

Unfortunately, Johnson isn't here at the HPT Columbus today.

For more on the reigning HPT POY, check out his full interview here on PokerNews.
