The Final Starting Flight Kicks Off at 12pm

The $250,000 guaranteed prizepool for the Heartland Poker Tour Lawrenceburg $1,100 Main Event has already been reached and the largest starting flight is still on the schedule. Day 1c is about to get underway at 12pm inside the ballroom at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

The first two flights saw a total of 262 entries take to the felt with 39 players already moving on to Day 2. After roughly another 12 hours of poker today, the survivors will join those already through to Day 2 on Sunday. For those that make it through, the money bubble will be on the horizon and something to look forward to.

A regular on the HPT, Timothy Burden currently has the overall chip lead with 417,000 after an impressive Day 1b. Burden used a combination of table talk and his poker skills to rattle his opponents and finish on top last night. Many of the bigger names failed to find a bag but will have one last chance to do so today.

When the cards first get in the air, players will begin with 30,000 starting chips with the blinds at 100/100. The blind levels will be 40-minutes in length with a 15-minute break after every three levels. There are a total of 15 levels on tap for today with a 60-minute dinner break scheduled for after level nine.

The players will have the option of unlimited re-entries with the late registration period open until after the dinner break. That should lead to plenty of action in the opening levels as players look to run up a stack early on.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day.

Hiser Picks Off a Bluff from Matthews

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Thomas Matthews opened to 300 in middle position and was called by Robin Hiser in the hijack and both of the blinds. The flop came {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{10-Spades} and the action checked to Matthews who continued for 700. Hiser called and both of the blinds got out of the way.

The turn brought the {2-Spades} and Matthews tossed in another bet of 1,100 but Hiser continued to call. The river was the {10-Hearts} and Matthews reached back for a bet of 3,600. Hiser thought for a minute and then made the call. Matthews just sent his cards to the muck and Hiser tabled {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} to scoop the pot.

Worden Off to a Hot Start

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
David Worden
David Worden

David Worden has had a dream start to his Main Event through the opening level, having already more than doubled his starting stack. Within the first few hands, Worden was the beneficiary of a full double up, sending one opponent to the rail in a matter of minutes.

One orbit later, Worden got paid off when he went runner-runner quads and he just recently picked up another pot. Three players saw a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} and the action checked to Worden on the button who bet 700. Stephen Hyvonen called from the small blind along with James McClurg in the cutoff.

The turn was the {4-Hearts} and Hyvonen chose to lead out for 1,100. McClurg min-raised to 2,200 and both Worden and Hyvonen called. The river was the {j-Clubs} and all three players knuckled the table. Hyvonen tabled {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, McClurg showed {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, and Worden was awarded the pot with {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}.

Flush Over Flush for Guagenti

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Nick Guagenti bet 2,500 from middle position into a pot of around 5,000. Michael Gattozzi raised to 10,500 on the button and Guagenti just called.

The river was the {9-Clubs} and Guagenti checked to Gattozzi who dropped in a bet of 20,000. Guagenti instantly tossed in a single chip to indicate he was calling off his last 14,200 chips. Gattozzi tabled {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a flush but Guagenti held {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a higher flush to double up.
