Gutierrez Gets Big Value

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Justin Gutierrez
Justin Gutierrez

After a raise from a player in the cutoff, Justin Gutierrez three-bet to 4,700 in the cutoff, only to be met with a four-bet to 10,000 from the cutoff. Gutierrez called.

Both players checked the {k-Spades}{3-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop, and the cutoff checked again on the {8-Spades} turn. Gutierrez bet 12,000, and the cutoff called.

The cutoff checked again on the {8-Hearts} river, and Gutierrez bet 25,000. The cutoff called, only to muck after Gutierrez tabled {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} for kings-full.

Myers Shakes Off Mitchell

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

Carter Myers raised to 1,300 from under the gun, and was called by Everett Lawrence in middle position, as well as the hijack and Leo Mitchell in the big blind.

Mitchell checked the {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop to Myers, who bet 3,000. Only Mitchell called.

The {7-Hearts} turn was checked again by Mitchell, and Myers bet 10,000. Mitchell counted down his 27,200 chip stack, then folded.

Mangold Sets 'em Up

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Jason Mangold
Jason Mangold

On a {5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop, Jason Mangold had an opponent in middle position at risk for his last 20,000, and Mangold had his opponent in rough shape.

Opponent: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}
Jason Mangold: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}

Mangold's set locked up the hand on the {2-Clubs} turn, and the {10-Clubs} river was too little, too late for Mangold's opponent.

Near Triple For Trost

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Craig Trost
Craig Trost

A player checked the {6-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop from the big blind, and the under-the-gun player bet 1,500. Craig Trost called, leaving himself just 800 behind, and the big blind came along as well.

The big blind led out for 5,000 on the {5-Spades} turn, and the under-the-gun player tanked for a minute before folding. Trost wasted little time committing his last 800.

Craig Trost: {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}
Opponent: {j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

Trost's set could still be beat by a river jack or five, but the {8-Spades} brought Trost new life with an essential triple-up.

Michael VanderWoude
Michael VanderWoude

For the past week, the Heartland Poker Tour has hosted a slew of side events and satellites leading up to this weekend's $1,650 Main Event here at Ameristar East Chicago, and we've taken the time to highlight some of the bigger events that took place.

Event #3: $200 NLH Deep Stack had 203 contenders make their way to the felt, and just 23 would walk away with a cash, including Samuel King (11th - $728) and Robert Matic (14th - $629).

Michael VanderWoude and Dale Robinson would end up as the last two players standing before making a heads-up deal that saw VanderWoude take down the title and $6,905 in prize money, while Robinson walked away with $6,200 for his efforts.
