Nelson Gets a Bluff Through

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Peter Nigh checked a {6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop from the small blind, and Ian Nelson bet 5,500 into a pot of 9,000 from the big blind. Nigh called.

Nigh check-called a second bullet of 8,000 on the {10-Diamonds} turn, and the {8-Hearts} hit the river. Nigh checked a third time, and Nelson bet 13,000. Nigh tanked for a few minutes, then a player at the table called the clock. A few seconds into the countdown, Nigh folded, and Nelson quickly tabled {9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for a total bluff. Nigh tapped the table in approval of the bluff, and Nelson raked in the pot.

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Reginald "Shawn" Roberts
Reginald "Shawn" Roberts

A player raised to 1,000 from middle position, and was called in four spots, including by three-time HPT champ Reginald "Shawn" Roberts in the small blind.

Action checked to the preflop raiser on an {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop, and he bet 1,000. Action then folded to Roberts, who quickly check-raised to 2,000. Only the preflop raiser called.

Roberts bet 2,300 on the {6-Hearts} turn, and his opponent called.

The {9-Diamonds} hit the river, and Roberts bet 20,000, enough to cover his opponent. The middle position player quickly folded.

Nhut Nguyen, Brian Tracy and Ian Nelson

The opening event of the HPT Hollywood St. Louis tournament series was Event #1: $350 No Limit Hold'em, a tournament that boasted a $200,000 guarantee. With a total of 917 entrants, including a staggering 511 entrants in the final flight, a final prize pool of $275,100 was created, easily beating the guarantee.

94 players were able to walk away with a piece of the prize pool, and a few of those lucky enough to cash include Mary Sturges (19th - $1,876), Charles Wells (38th - $1,290), Corey Fleming (58th - $1,010), Neil Patel (62nd - $1,010), and Mike Rieck (85th - $750).

In the end, the final three players struck a deal that saw Nhut Nguyen ($36,518) take the title and trophy, while Brian Tracy ($37,305) and Ian Nelson ($34,318) left with substantial chunks of the prize pool. Nguyen took the rungood from the opening event win and went on to take down the very next event, Event #2: $300 No Limit Hold'em Heads Up for another $5,224. Nelson wouldn't rest on his laurels either, as he was able to take down Event $7: $300 No Limit Hold'em w/ $100 Bounties for $6,362 later in the series.

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante

Carl Masters raised to 800 from early position, and was called by the button, as well as Bradley Beetz in the big blind.

Action checked through the {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop, and Beetz checked the {a-Clubs} on the turn. Masters bet 1,000, and only the button called.

Meanwhile, James Pupillo was seen exiting the tournament area just before the previous hand took place, and it's yet to be seen if he'll utilize his single re-entry option.
