Hawkins and Sheikh Chop It Up

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Maurice Hawkins
Maurice Hawkins

Zaki Sheikh checked an {8-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} board from the big blind, and former HPT St. Louis champ Maurice Hawkins bet 2,400 into a pot 3,000. Sheikh check-raised to 6,000, and Hawkins three-bet enough to put Sheikh in for his last 25,000 or so. Sheikh quickly called.

Zaki Sheikh: {k-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Maurice Hawkins: {k-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}

Both players held kings-up for a chop, and filled up on the {k-Spades} river before the pot was chopped between the two. Even with the chop, Hawkins has gotten off to a strong start here in Day 1c action.

John "Farmboy" Kurfman
John "Farmboy" Kurfman

"Well, we got one!" John "Farmboy" Kurfman said during a recent pass of the tournament floor. Kurfman, a former HPT Tama champ from 2009, gestured towards the empty seat where David Simon once resided.

He was involved again in a four-way pot soon after, when action checked to him on a {4-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} board. Kurfman bet 1,700 into a pot of 5,000 from the button, and one-by-one, his opponents folded. Kurfman flashed a {j-} before pulling in another pot.
