Nick Pupillo

Day 2 of the HPT Season XV $2,500 Championship Event is set to kick off at 11 a.m. local time, as 110 players return from a field of 353 players, all looking to navigate their way to Day 3 and the nationally televised final table, which will also be live-streamed at the HPT's Twitch channel.

The final 36 players will all take home a share of the $790,720 prize pool, with a min-cash worth $5,930. Making it to the final table of nine guarantees a payday of $19,056, while the eventual champion will take home $181,874 in prize money.

Brent Barfield comes into the day as the overwhelming chip leader, sitting over 100,000 chips above his closest competetor in Dan Lowery. Defending champ Josh Reichard sits with a comfortable top 5 stack of 215,500, and both Nick Davidson and Eric Salazar, the last two players standing between Nick Pupillo and the coveted HPT Player of the Year crown, also lurk in the top ten in chips.

We'll also be keeping an eye on former HPT champs Chris Moon (180,800), Dan Wagner (109,300), Gary Herstein (72,000), Craig Casino (69,500) and Mike Shin (59,300).

PokerNews will be live on the felt all day long as the field reaches the money and plays down to the nationally televised final table of nine. Stay tuned here for live updates and photos from the HPT Season XV $2,500 Championship Event at Hollywood Casino St. Louis.

Johnson Jams on Hawkins

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Aaron Johnson
Aaron Johnson

Maurice Hawkins raised to 12,000 from middle position, and Aaron Johnson called in the big blind.

Action checked to the river of a {j-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{j-Spades}{k-Clubs}{q-Spades} board, where Johnson bet 7,000. Hawkins raised to 14,000, and Johnson three-bet shoved to put Hawkins at risk. Hawkins instantly flung {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} up on the felt, preserving his remaining 75,000.

Clark's Truck Gets a New Owner

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Scotter Clark
Scotter Clark

Scotter Clark placed all of his large denomination chips on top of his miniature tractor-trailer, then moved all in for 61,500 from the hijack. Stephen Song called on the button, and Greg Jennings three-bet shoved for 72,500 total from the small blind. Song called that as well.

Scotter Clark: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Greg Jennings: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Stephen Song: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Clark and Song shared the same hand, and Jennings held on the {2-Hearts}{k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} runout, finishing with a full house for the near triple.

Before leaving the table, Clark signed the mini tractor-trailer and rolled it across the felt to Jennings, who said, "Thanks Scotter! I'm gonna put this up on my bookshelf."

Burns Rides the Roller-Coaster to a Huge Double

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
James Burns
James Burns

James Burns got his last 225,500 in on a {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop after a raising war with Ron Ong, and Ong called to put Burns at risk for an over 500,000 chip pot.

James Burns: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Ron Ong: {j-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Burns had the lead with top set, but the {8-Clubs} turn gave Ong a flush and left Burns needing the board to pair in order to survive. The {3-Hearts} river gave Burns a full house, and he celebrated with a fist pump as he scooped in the massive pot.

Daniel Sepiol: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
James Burns: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

Sepiol improved to top set on the {2-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop, and Burns sent over the double after the {k-Diamonds} turn and {8-Hearts} river hit the felt.

Lowery Out in 38th; Hand For Hand Process Begins

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Daniel Lowery
Daniel Lowery

Dan Lowery got his last 66,000 in chips in on a {3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Spades} flop from the big blind, and Stephen Song had him at risk from the cutoff.

Dan Lowery: {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Stephen Song: {a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

Lowery's four was outkicked, and the {j-Diamonds} turn and {q-Spades} river left Lowery just shy of a cash.

The final thirty-seven players are now hand-for-hand, so stay tuned to see who the unfortunate bubble boy will be.

Chris Moon three-bet shoved for 100,000 from the cutoff over an open from Freddy Williams in the hijack, and Williams called.

Chris Moon: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Freddy Williams: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Moon's quest for a second HPT title came to a close after a {4-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} board left him dead on the turn.

Jennings Portends His Doom

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Greg Jennings
Greg Jennings

Justin Coliny raised to 18,000 from middle position, and Greg Jennings shook Coliny's hand, then three-bet shoved for 55,000, much to the bemusement of the table. Action folded back to Coliny, who called.

Greg Jennings: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Justin Coliny: {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Coliny's white-hot run continued after the {7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop gave him a straight, and although Jennings turned a Broadway draw with the {k-Diamonds} turn, the {3-Spades} river left Jennings shaking hands again, this time before heading to the payout desk.
