Simon Wilson put in his last 145,000 under the gun. It folded to Severi Palmu in the big blind, who made the call.
Simon Wilson: 9♠3♠
Severi Palmu: A♥6♥
Palmu removed some of Wilson's outs by pairing on the Q♦5♠6♣ flop. The 8♥ turn gave Wilson no respite, and the A♣ river made Palmu two pair to set Wilson's elimination in stone.
Simon Wilson open-raised under the gun and saw Adrian Cazacu shove all in for 805,000 from the cutoff. The action folded back to Wilson, who snap-called.
Adrian Cazacu: 5♠5♣
Simon Wilson: A♣K♥
The 8♥10♦J♦ flop provided Wilson with a gutshot, but the 6♥ turn did not help him. The J♣ river paired the board, meaning Cazacu's fives held to win the big pot, leaving Wilson with just over two big blinds.
Robbie Toan made it 100,000 under the gun. Klemens Roiter defended his big blind, and the two saw a flop of J♦10♦6♥. Toan continued for 50,000, and Roiter called.
Toan sized up to 125,000 on the 8♠ turn, seeing Roiter put in another check-call. The river came the 4♥. Roiter checked for a third time, but folded once Toan put in a bet of 250,000.
Klemens Roiter raised his button to 100,000, after which Robbie Toan made it 275,000 to go from the small blind. Roiter made a quick fold, and the pot was headed to Toan.
One orbit later, Roiter raised his button again. This time, Toan pushed in a three-bet to 300,000. Roiter folded once more, surrendering the chip lead to his neighbor.
Adrian Cazacu made a raise to 100,000 in the cutoff. Klemens Roiter three-bet all in for 825,000 on the button, and Cazacu called after getting an exact count.
Klemens Roiter: A♦Q♦
Adrian Cazacu: 10♥10♣
Roiter shot in the lead on the A♥8♣4♥ flop and did not look back on the 2♠9♦ runout. His pair of aces won him the chip lead pot, much to the dismay of the shorter stacks at the table.
Robbie Toan opened to 100,000 in the cutoff. Button Michel Molenaar three-bet his stack of 675,000 in the middle, swiftly being called by Toan once the action had folded back to him.
Michel Molenaar: Q♥J♥
Robbie Toan: 4♥4♦
Toan raised his arms in celebration when he noticed he had flopped a set on K♠4♣9♠. He still had a gutshot to fade, but when did so on the J♦7♣ runout, he ended Molenaar's run in sixth place.
"Boom, the fish is back," Toan exclaimed as Molenaar went to pick up his payout.
Last year, a massive field of 3,233 entries assembled at the Royal Dublin Society for the 2024 Irish Open €1,150 Main Event. The tournament set a new record for the Irish Open and absolutely smashing the guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000 by creating a prize pool of €3,152,175.
However, as with any other tournament, there could only be one person left standing at the end. Over four long days of poker action, it was Day 3 chipleader Tero Laurila who won the iconic Irish Open trophy and took home €292,685 after a three-way deal.
Laurila defeated Ireland’s Hiep Ninh after a relatively short heads up battle, as the blinds had been reduced from 60 to 20 minutes after the deal. Ninh, who plays almost exclusively in Dublin, took home the larger sum of €335,636 for his efforts due to having a massive chip lead when the deal was made. The final person involved in the deal was the 21-year-old Mark Johnston, who is just dipping his toes in the waters of professional poker and walked away with €232,685 for third place.
