Super High Rollers Assemble for First €10,000 Irish Open Event in a Decade

Irish Open 2025 / Branding
Irish Open 2025 / Branding

The largest buy-in of the 2025 Irish Open, sponsored by PokerStars and Paddy Power Poker, kicks off at 4 p.m. local time today. The €10,000 Super High Roller has not been on the Irish Open schedule since 2014, making it the first of its kind since the event moved to the halls of the Royal Dublin Society.

Eleven years ago, Mark Buckley only had to defeat one opponent to capture the title and the entire €19,400 prize pool. However, the Irish Open has grown significantly since then, and a much larger field can be expected this time. Buckley is still very active on the European poker circuit, and the Irishman has already been spotted in Dublin this year, having cashed in the €5,000 PLO High Roller. If Buckley decides to enter the Super High Roller, he will have a unique opportunity to defend his title after over a decade.

The €10,000 Super High Roller will start as a super deep-stacked affair, with a starting stack of 100,000 and Level 1 having blinds of 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. All levels will be 40 minutes long, and 13 will be played on Day 1, wrapping up the day around 2 a.m. local time, after which the survivors bag up for the second and final day, starting at 1 p.m. the next day.

The late registration will remain open until the start of Level 11, when the clock strikes midnight, at which point the starting stack is still worth 33 big blinds, and a 40-minute dinner break is scheduled after Level 7, 9 p.m. local time.

Proudfoot First to Fall as Nguyen Ships Huge One

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Jonathan Proudfoot
Jonathan Proudfoot

Govert Metaal raised to 600 in middle position before Christopher Nguyen made it 2,000 in the cutoff. Jonathan Proudfoot then four-bet to 9,700 from the big blind, which only Nguyen called.

The pair went to a flop of 365. Proudfoot continued for 4,500, but was rasied to 10,000 by Nguyen. Proudfoot called to the 7 turn, which he checked.

Nguyen fired a bet of 20,000 and snap-called when Proudfoot moved all in for 75,000 or so. Proudfoot could only laugh as the pair tabled their cards.

Proudfoot was drawing dead against the nut flush of Nguyen, and he quickly left the tournament area as the 4 river completed the board, heading to the reentry desk.

Nguyen, meanwhile, shipped the pot of 1,000 big blinds, receiving an early double-up.

Jamie Dwan opened to 700 in the cutoff, being three-bet to 5,600 by Michel Molenaar in the small blind. Christopher Nguyen then four-bet to 13,000 from the big blind, after which Dwan jammed all in for 112,000.

Molenaar called off his stack of 100,000, leaving a bewildered Nguyen to toss his cards into the muck.

The 106222 flop brought no surprises, seeing Molenaar double up with his aces. Dwan was left with one-eighth of a starting stack, but still had 40 big blinds to play with thanks to the deep structure.

Simon Doubles Through Artiga-Pacheco's Misclick

Level 4 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

[Removed:553] raised to 1,500 in middle position. Jorge Artiga-Pacheco, seemingly not having noted Simon's raise, announced a raise in the small blind. He was forced to make the minimum raise to 2,400, which Simon four-bet to 8,500.

Artiga-Pacheco called to the 953 flop, which he checked to Simon. Simon fired a bet of 7,500, which Artiga-Pacheco raised to 15,600. Simon clicked back to 25,500, after which Artiga-Pacheco shoved all in.

Simon immediately called off his stack of 77,200, and both players were ordered to show down.

Derk van Luijk
Derk van Luijk

Bernard Larabi opened the action with a raise to 1,200 under the gun. Derk van Luijk called on the button, as did Diego Montone in the small blind. Big blind Mengshi Tian then squeezed in a reraise to 6,200.

Larabi made a quick fold, with Van Luijk and Montone calling to the K6K flop, where Montone checked to Tian.

Tian fired a bet of 3,200, Van Luijk called, and Montone folded. The 7 turn slowed down Tian, who checked before calling the bet of 6,000 by Van Luijk.

Van Luijk sized up to 8,000 on the J river. Tian used one time extension before putting in a final check-call, but mucked his cards when Van Luijk tabled K9 for the winning three of a kind.

Larabi turned over Q10 for a rivered pair of tens, but Helppi had the winning hand with J9 for top pair and was awarded the pot.

Mengshi Tian in the cutoff and Jonathan Proudfoot on the button had built a big pot of 60,000 when they arrived on a turn of 32K5. Tian checked to Proudfoot, who wagered 23,000 additional chips.

Tian spent one time bank before moving all in for 90,000, covering Proudfoot. Proudfoot went into the tank as well, spending one time extension of his own before finding a fold and leaving himself about half a starting stack.

During the hand, EPT founder John Duthie sat down at the table, receiving a fresh stack of 100,000.
