Alex Livingston, Hossein Ensan Thrive on Day 1 of the €10,000 Diamond High Roller

Level 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Alex Livingston
Alex Livingston

More than 4,000 miles separate Alex Livingston’s home in Canada from King’s Resort in Rozvadov, but not nearly the same distance keeps Livingston from the chip lead after Day 1 of the €10,000 Diamond High Roller at the Grand Big Wrap festival.

Livingston busted Michael Rohde with a flopped set of fives that turned into a full house on the river on his way to bagging up 414,000 and comfortably in the top 10 among the 80 surviving players from a starting field of 164. Hossein Ensan, the 2019 WSOP champion who shared that final table with Livingston, is also in the top-10 with 380,000 after building up his stack on his second bullet of the day.

They and the rest of the field are looking up at Russian Viacheslav Osipov, who finished the day with a massive stack of 565,000. Mahmoud Khatib is in second place with 452,000, while Tom-Aksel Bedell (430,000), Eelis Parssinen (334,000), and Gergo Nagy (304,000) are also big stacks. Joni Jouhkimainen jumped right into this tournament after winning the 5K PLO Master tournament and picked up where he left off, finishing with 331,000.

Players who couldn’t survive the day included King’s Resort owner Leon Tsoukernik, Tony G, Jonas Kronwitter, Quan Zhou, and Damjan Radanov, who busted three times during the day including on a brutal river suckout against Daniel Smuskovics on the last level. They and any other aspiring hopefuls will have to try again tomorrow if they want to grab a part of the €2,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Day 2 begins tomorrow at 3 p.m. local time. Late registration remains open until the end of Level 11, with players allowed unlimited reentries. The plan is to play down to a winner, but with 80 players still remaining and the average stack nearly 70 big blinds, it is sure to be a long, grueling road to crowning a champion.

PokerNews will be back following all the action tomorrow until only one player is left standing from this star-studded field.

Heads-up on a board of KQ6J, Danyel Boyaciyan pushed all in for his last 40,000 as Harry Casagrande gave the decision some thought before calling.

Boyaciyan showed AAK2, but Casagrande had KQ98 for two pair and the lead. The river came the 4 and Casagrande let out a big fist pump as Boyaciyan made a quick walk to the exit.

Schlott Fires Away in Multiway Pot

Level 7 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Felix Schlott
Felix Schlott

Three-handed on a flop of A9J, Felix Schlott bet 15,000 from the hijack and Christian Stoyanov called in the cutoff, as did small blind Mahmoud Khatib.

The turn came the 4 and Schlott bet another 75,000. Stoyanov used a time bank before calling, while Khatib gave up his hand.

Schlott bet enough to put Stoyanov all in on the 5 river and Stoyanov, with only around 20,000 remaining, mucked as Schlott took down the pot to climb above 500,000 and take the tournament chip lead.

Tony G was standing up from the table conversing with Leon Tsoukernik as the next hand at his table began to be dealt.

"Deal me in. I'm qualified," Tony G said, returning to his seat and posting the big blind.

"Tony G is in the house," Tsoukernik called out.

Action then folded to Omar Eljach in the small blind who moved all in blind. Tony G called off his last 12,500, also without looking.

Omar Eljach: 8754
Tony G: AQJ9

The flop came Q88, giving Eljach trip eights. "It's over," Tony G said.

The turn, though, was the Q as Tony G made trip queens. "It's over, for you," he now said heading to the 3 river as Tony G doubled up.

Parssinen Spikes the River on Klostermeier

Eelis Parssinen
Eelis Parssinen

Maximilian Klostermeier and Eelis Parssinen built a pot of around 85,000 heading to the flop of JK7 where both players got the rest of their chips in the middle.

Maximilian Klostermeier: AAJ5
Eelis Parssinen: 10876

"How about a seven," Parssinen called for as the 5 fell on turn, giving Klostermeier two pair. The river, though, gave Parssinen his wish as the dealer turned over the 7, improving Parssinen to trips.

Parssinen counted his remaining stack of around 45,000. He barely had Klostermeier covered and sent him to the rail.

Leon Tsoukernik, who quickly built up a stack of more than 300,000 earlier in the day, had an equally rapid downfall and was recently eliminated.

The turn came the J and Rohde got his remaining 37,000 in the middle. He showed KQ109 for a pair of queens, but Livingston had K755 for a flopped set.

Level 5 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Leon Tsoukernik
Leon Tsoukernik

Tom Aksel Bedell raised to 5,000 and Leon Tsoukernik called before Johan Espholm, on the button, three-bet to 20,000. Bedell got out of the way.

"All the way from Copenhagen," Tsoukernik said as he slid forward a stack of blue 25,000 chips, putting Espholm all in. Espholm snap-called for his last 82,000.

Johan Espholm: QJJ9
Leon Tsoukernik: A1098

The QJ5 flop helped both players as Espholm made a set while Tsoukernik picked up a straight draw. "One more," Tsoukernik said, standing up from his seat.

The 3 turn was no help, while Espholm survived on the 4 river to double up off the King's Resort owner.

"You had a beautiful hand. Even if you just call we get it all in on the flop," Espholm told him.

Tom Axel Bedel

With around 25,000 already in the pot on a flop of 949, Tom Aksel Bedell bet 5,000 from the hijack and Leon Tsoukernik folded on the button, while Nenad Jovanovic put in a raise to 13,000 in the small blind.

Bedell called and both players then checked the 6 turn. Jovanovic led out for another 10,000 on the 4 river and Bedell came back with a raise to 35,000.

Jovanovic called and Bedell showed KK98 for trip nines to win the pot.

Tsoukernik, despite playing a small role in that big pot, has more than tripled his stack since taking his seat in the tournament. Hossein Ensan, meanwhile, had no such luck today and was recently eliminated.
