Chip Counts
In the 1,009th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by 888poker, Chad Holloway sits down with Albert Cheng, the Chief Growth Officer of Chess.com.
Poker may experience a boom among chess players as a popular chess website with millions of daily users launched a poker site and training program. Gambit, launched by Chess.com, is a free-to-use poker software where players can play against bots, friends, and other online users. They can also be walked through the basics of the game, take poker strategy lessons, and track their poker stats.
Gambit is specifically aimed at helping new players become introduced to the game without having to lose money or be pushed in-app purchases.
"Here's what it is: a poker site built for learning," Chess.com Chief Growth Officer Albert Cheng said in a May blog post. "No real-money gambling. No rake. Just the parts of the chess playbook that have made it work for millions of people, applied to poker."
Gambit, which is available on desktop as well as iOS and Android, will be immediately familiar to Chess.com users as the two share the same interface and graphics.

After a level and a half of play, the remaining 495 players have been sent on a 60-minute dinner break.
Kevin Kevinov raised to 40,000 from the cutoff. Doron Reuveni, in the big blind, defended.
The A♣6♦6♥ flop saw Reuveni check and then call a bet of 35,000 from Kevinov.
Reuveni played in flow on the 5♠ turn. Kevinov sized up to 90,000, and Reuveni mucked his hand, shaking his head as he did so.
David Kozma raised to 46,000 from under the gun, receiving two calls. Äääällliiiööö, in the big blind, squeezed, moving all-in for 240,000. Kozma made the call while the other players folded.
Äääällliiiööö: Q♦10♦
David Kozma: 6♠6♥
Kozma stayed ahead on the 9♣4♦8♣ flop. However, Äääällliiiööö spiked the turn as the Q♣ fell. Kozma paid off the bet on the 4♠ river.
Hoang Phan moved all in for 192,000 from the cutoff. Lorenc Boci, in the small blind, made an easy call.
Hoang Phan: 6♣6♦
Lorenc Boci: A♠A♣
Phan needed help, and that's exactly what he found on the 10♥6♥K♣ flop. The 10♠ turn and K♠ river completed the board, and Phan's full house ensured him the full double-up.
Guido Presti raised to 40,000 in early position. Michelangelo Longo, to his left, moved all-in for 426,000. Lorenc Boci, one position over, cold-called. Francesco Villano, in the cutoff, also called off the bet for his effective stack of 210,000. Presti got out of the way.
Francesco Villano: Q♦Q♣
Michelangelo Longo: Q♥Q♠
Lorenc Boci: K♥K♦
This preflop cooler saw Boci have both players dead on the 5♣3♥9♥ flop. The K♣ turn only improved Boci, and the 7♥ river saw two seats open.
Book OF UNREAD raised to 45,000 from the button. Jan Bendik, in the small blind, three-bet jammed for 200,000, and Book OF UNREAD made the call.
Jan Bendik: 6♦6♠
Book OF UNREAD: A♦7♦
To the table's amazement, the dealer spread the 6♦6♠K♣ flop, giving Bendik quads. The 9♣K♦ completed the board, and Bendik doubled up in dramatic fashion.
