Verkhoturov Tops Day 1a of The Big Wrap in Rozvadov

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Sergei Verkhoturov
Sergei Verkhoturov

There are very few Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments with a big guaranteed prize pool, let alone one with seven figures, but that didn't stop the King's Casino and Resort in Rozvadov to put €1,000,000 on the line for all four-card lovers in yet another edition of The Big Wrap. With a buy-in of €2,350, that requires more than 450 entries in total and the first of two starting days attracted a field of 128 entries in total, consisting of 107 unique players and 21 re-entries.

If there was any doubt over who will be the overnight chip leader, Sergey Verkhoturov put an end to those thoughts at the end of the penultimate level when he turned a full house in a three-bet pot and sent Calogero Lupo to the rail in one of the biggest pots of the day so far. It vaulted the Belorussian to more than ten times the starting stack and he ended the day with an astonishing 1,070,000 in chips.

Second in chips is Kyrylo Shkrob (494,000) followed by Salavat Shafigullin (475,000) and Tim Hoffmann (427,000). Other notables that advanced with a healthy stack after the first of two starting days were Robert Cowen (410,000), Ilyaz Dosikov (385,000), Leonid Yanovski (379,000), and Han Kuo (368,000).

King's regular The Talk was one of 10 players to already have secured a stack for Day 2 thanks to the online Day 1 on partypoker and managed to bag up more than double of what he already had at his disposal from the virtual felt, advancing to Day 2 with 352,000. He needed a second bullet for it, though, after he was eliminated in the first level of the day.

Many other familiar faces of the European poker circuit headed to Rozvadov to take a shot at the seven-figure prize pool. The exploits of Maksim Shuts, Robert Zipf, Stanislav Koleno, Andrej Desset, Jesper Hougaard, Marcel Luske and Samuel Albeck were not crowned by success just yet. However, they may all enter once more on Day 1b and also in the first two levels of Day 2 with a fresh stack of 100,000.

The first bullet of Tomasz Kozub went down in flames when his flopped top two pair and gutshot straight draw ended up second-best to the set of aces of Yves Henschel and he ran out of chips a second time towards the end of the night. The second entry of Netanel Amedi ended with a flopped set of aces when Petr Svoboda got there with a runner-runner straight. The luck of Svoboda ran out soon after as his wrap failed to pick up any help against Kyrylo Shkrob.

Towards the end of the night, the late entries and bustouts from Besim Hot, Martin Kabrhel and Renato Nowak brought a sudden surge of intense PLO action to the tables and fewer than half of the field remained when it came to bagging and tagging.

The second and final starting day kicks off on Saturday, September 14th, 2019, at 4 p.m. local time and the PokerNews team will be back on the floor to provide all the action from start to finish.

Verkhoturov Cements Top Spot

Level 11 : 1,000/2,500, 0 ante
Sergei Verkhoturov
Sergei Verkhoturov

Robert Cowen opened to 7,000 and Ivan Levchenko called, as did Calogero Lupo in the cutoff. Sergei Verkhoturov three-bet the pot to 38,000 and Lupo was the only caller.

On a {k-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop, Lupo check-called a bet worth 40,000 and quickly did so again for 55,000 on the {6-Spades} turn. The {10-Clubs} came on the river and Lupo checked once more. Verkhoturov bet 150,000 and Lupo called all in for fewer than that.

Verkhoturov turned over {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a full house and Lupo mucked {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}.

Svoboda Busts With a Wrap

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Petr Svoboda
Petr Svoboda

Very fitting to the name of the event, Petr Svoboda put his hopes on a big wrap when he jammed the {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} turn for 51,000 out of the blinds. Kyrylo Shkrob was his sole remaining opponent and with 110,000 in the pot already without Svoboda's shove, he made the call.

Petr Svoboda: {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Kyrylo Shkrob: {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}

Shkrob was ahead with his king-high, flushdraw and gutshot. Svoboda failed to catch any help as the {3-Clubs} river changed nothing but "improved" Shkrob to a pair of treys to deal the final blow.

Rabl Leaves Espholm Short

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 0 ante
Johan Espholm
Johan Espholm

Johan Espholm is on his third bullet for the day but made up for that in a successful cashgame session earlier. Espholm may need to re-enter on Day 1b however, as his third attempt just took a major blow.

Four ways to the {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} turn, Stanislav Koleno checked in the big blind and Didier Rabl bet 16,800 in the hijack. Espholm called in the cutoff and so did Giovanni Salvatore on the button while Koleno folded. The {4-Clubs} river brought a pot-sized bet of 66,000 by Rabl and Espholm called, Salvatore folded.

Rabl announced a flush and turned over {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades} to win the pot.

Amedi Busts Again

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 0 ante
Netanel Amedi
Netanel Amedi

The second bullet of Netanel Amedi on Day 1a just ended in unfortunate fashion when he got his last 15 big blinds and change in after a {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop against Petr Svoboda.

Netanel Amedi: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Petr Svoboda: {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Svoboda's straight draw came in surprising fashion as the {6-Diamonds} turn and {8-Hearts} river completed the board to give Svoboda a ten-high straight.

Levchenko Doubles Through Macesovic

Level 6 : 400/800, 0 ante
Irena Macesovic
Irena Macesovic

Irena Macesovic three-bet the pot out of turn and called the shove of Ivan Levchenko for 40,500 to set up the following showdown.

Ivan Levchenko: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{k-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Irena Macesovic: {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

The {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop gave Macesovic an open-ender, but the {6-Spades} turn and {4-Diamonds} river both bricked off.

Henschel Takes From Ditz

Level 4 : 200/500, 0 ante
Yves Henschel
Yves Henschel

On the tail end of a big pot between Yves Henschel and Dieter Ditz, the former check-called a bet of 50,000 with the completed board showing {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

Ditz rolled over {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for a full house, sevens over queens, and Henschel held the {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} for nines full of sevens. "Wow, thank you," a stunned Ditz said as he did not bust but rather lose just a big portion of his stack.

The Talk on Second Bullet

The Talk
The Talk

The Talk was spotted on his way out of the tournament area but he quickly headed to Samuel Albeck to explain what happened, as he was eliminated in the first level of the day.

According to the German, he turned a set of jacks while Arpad Koevecses had flopped a set of fours. Koevecses picked up a flush draw on the turn and indeed got there with {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} to send The Talk to the registration desk, who re-entered soon after.
