Petronack Moves Up

In the first hand back from break, Jesus Bertoli raised to 27,000 from middle position. Two seats over, Jeff Petronack said, "All right, seventy," and slid out 14 blue T5,000 chips. Bertoli asked his opponent for a count before letting his hand go.

Movin' On Up

In a battle of the blinds, Joel Micka was first into the pot with a raise to 21,000. From the big blind, Jeff Petronack put in the call, and it was heads up to the flop.

The flop brought {Q-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {J-Spades}, and both men checked.

Fourth street was the {9-Diamonds}, which drew a bet of 20,000 from Micka. Petronack wasted little time calling.

The river was the {9-Hearts} and Micka slowed down, again checking to his opponent. Petronack quickly bet 25,000, and Micka called even quicker. Jeff Petronack tabled {7-Spades} {9-Clubs}, and it was the winner, as Micka mucked his hand.

"I shoulda bet more!" lamented Petronack as he raked in the pot. He has been climbing steadily today, and he now sits with 340,000.

Blind Action

We just had our second big pot in a blind-against-blind battle.

The table passed around to Brent Sheirbon in the small blind, and he came in raising to 30,000. Ryan Fee was in the big, and he made the call.

The flop came {2-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {9-Hearts}, and Sheirbon check-called a 25,000-chip bet from Fee.

The turn brought the {5-Spades}, and this time both players checked.

The {8-Hearts} hit the river, and Sheirbon took the betting lead, pushing out 60,000 chips. Fee sat still for a few moments and shot an occasional glance over at his opponent. After some time, he put in a raise to 160,000, which drew a blank stare from Sheirbon. He thought for another minute or two before letting his hand go.

Fee flashed {4-?} {4-?} as he pulled in a nice pot, courtesy of the man to his right. After that shakedown, Sheirbon has slipped to 175,000, while Fee is back to where he started the day, right about 480,000.

Sheirbon Finds a Monster

Brent Sheirbon
Brent Sheirbon
Brent Sheirbon opened a can of worms when he came in raising to 25,000 from early position. Action folded around to the button, where Jesus Bertoli announced a reraise. He put out 57,000 total, and the betting passed back around to Sheirbon. He asked for an estimate of Bertoli's chip count, and after a moment, he moved all in for a total of 245,000. Bertoli went into the think tank for two or three minutes, counting down his stack and sitting silently. Finally, he slid his cards into the muck, saving his last 135,000 for a better spot.

With a sheepish smile, Sheirbon opened up his hand: {7-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}. In the next seat over, Ryan Fee let out a big yell. "I love you, man!" said Fee, leaning over and bear-hugging Sheirbon. The seven-deuce was good enough to win him the pot, knocking Bertoli down to the short stack.

Maria Stern Eliminated in 8th Place ($24,425)

Maria Stern - 8th Place
Maria Stern - 8th Place
Maria Stern has moved all in several times in the past two orbits, and when it was folded to her in the cutoff, she pushed yet again for 116,000 The button and small blind folded, but Jeff Petronack looked at his cards, smiled, and immediately called.

Showdown:
Stern: {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts}
Petronack: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}

In a case of bad timing, Maria Stern watched the dealer spread out the last five community cards she will see today: {4-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}. Failing to improve, Stern was greeted by a warm standing ovation as she made her way toward the rail. When she got there, she received hugs and kisses from about a dozen members of her family and friends, many of whom were here all day yesterday as well.

With that, we are down to our final seven male players.

Micka v. Petronack

From early position, Joel Micka came in raising to 29,000. Next to act was Jeff Petronack, and he announced a reraise to 80,000. When it came back to Micka, he looked to have a tough decision, rubbing his face with his hands and glancing around the table. After a minute or two, he brought the big stick, moving all in against his lone opponent.

"I don't think I can call, but can I get a count?" asked Petronack. Micka's total amount was 285,000, and true to his word, Petronack could not call. He let his hand go, taking a step back to 315,000. Micka, meanwhile, has overtaken him, sitting now with 380,000.

Claus Rasmussen Eliminated in 7th Place ($34,195)

Claus Rasmussen - 7th Place
Claus Rasmussen - 7th Place
With the betting folded around to him in late position, Claus Rasmussen moved all in for a total of about 115,000. Jesus Bertoli folded, but Joel "JMPRODIGY" Micka quickly called, putting Rasmussen's tournament life in jeopardy.

Showdown:
Rasmussen: {Q-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}
Micka: {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}

Rasmussen found a pair on the flop, but could not improve further as the board ran out {Q-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {9-Spades} {10-Clubs} {6-Spades}. Failing to get over the hump, Claus Rasmussen becomes the second victim of this final table, taking home more than $34,000 for his three-day effort.

Updated Chip Counts

With that last knockout, Joel Micka has taken the chip lead at the final table. Here are the full counts:

Joel Micka - 495,000
Ryan Fee - 440,000
Brent Sheirbon - 335,000
Jeff Petronack - 315,000
Andrew Chen - 315,000
Jesus Bertoli - 165,000

Jeff Petronack Eliminated in 6th Place ($43,960)

Jeff Petronack - 6th Place
Jeff Petronack - 6th Place
After a pre-flop raising war, Jeff Petronack moved all in for a total of 297,000. Ryan Fee was his opponent in the hand, and asked, "You're all in? I call!" Fee had his man covered, so it was Petronack whose tournament was on the line.

Showdown:
Petronack: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}
Fee: {A-Spades} {K-Spades}

The two men stood and shook hands, complimenting each other's cards. They were seemingly poised for a chop.

But it was not meant to be for Petronack. Ryan Fee hit a miracle flop as the dealer spread {J-Spades} {8-Spades} {10-Spades}, giving him the ace-high flush and leaving his opponent drawing dead to a running straight flush chop.

There would be no chop for Petronack though.

The dealer ripped off the {Q-Spades} on the turn, giving Fee the unbeatable spade Royal Flush! To make things even more dramatic, the river brought the {9-Spades}, putting a straight flush on board and giving Fee the top seven cards in the deck!

Jeff Petronack put on a good show today, moving his chip stack up steadily until he finally met his demise. For his efforts, he will cash a check for $43,960. Not too shabby for three days of work.
