Alex Brenes Charges Back

Perhaps I was too quick to bury Alex Brenes. Because he's just won FIVE all-ins in a row to bring his stack back from a shovel-dirt-on-him 400 chips to a viable 34,000. In his most recent double-up Alex was all in with {K-Spades} {J-Diamonds} against Dominik Nitsche. Brenes caught a ten on the river to fill a gutshot straight draw and the crowd gather tight around the rail burst into cheers.

On Break

The players are leaving on a 15-minute break; hopefully it won't take them 15 minutes to clear the chaotic tournament room.

Things in the "steak house" were a little crazy during the initial two levels of play. The restaurant tables were moved out of the steak house and replaced with poker tables. The entire room is magnificently decorated and includes the ornate TV set.

So where's the craziness? Imagine a hundred people trying to squeeze into the tables... which included multiple film crews, production staff, security, floor staff, numerous media reps, and a couple of brave railbirds who snuck past the armed security guards in black military garb. Oh, and I forgot to mention the random models milling around.

All in all, it's just another day on the LAPT.

Raul Paez Eliminated

Raul Paez = Busto
Raul Paez = Busto
Raul Paez shoved with a baby pair. Robin Chesne called with suited overcards.

Chesne: {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts}
Paez: {3-Spades} {3-Clubs}

The flop was {A-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}. Although Paez flopped bottom set, Chesne picked up a flush draw. The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and the river was the {9-Hearts}. Chesne won the pot with a queen-high flush and Paez headed to the rail.

Pat Van Dijk Eliminates Daniel Asis

They give you two cards in hold'em and sometimes the one you think is the lesser of the two saves the day. Pat Van Dijk held {A-Diamonds} {10-Spades} to Daniel Asis' {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} and was no doubt looking for an ace to save the day. He didn't catch one on the {7-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {4-Hearts} flop, nor when the {J-Clubs} turned, but when the {8-Hearts} hit on the river the ten in Van Dijk's hand gave him a straight and the hand. "Yes!' he shouted, as Asis slumped back in his seat, hands cradling his head.

Vadim Thelin Eliminated by Alex Brenes

Incendiary.

Vadim Thelin shoved from UTG with short stack. Diego Maggiolo moved all in over the top. Alex Brenes looked down at his cards and announced that he was all in. They all sat at the table closest to the rail and the crowd surged at the table as all three players revealed their cards:

Vadim: {A-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}
Diego: {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}
Alex Brenes: {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

Brenes was ahead, but Diego had all of the players covered. The rail screamed out different cards depending on who they were rooting for. A vicious shouting match ensued.

"Tres! Tres!" one guy screamed.

"Reina!" shouted another.

The rest of the chatter? I could not understand. The dealer fanned out the flop of {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {4-Clubs} and the film crew jockeyed for position among the spectators who jumped the rail.

"Dos! Dos!" screamed Alex Brenes, who still held the lead.

The turn was the {4-Spades} and the volume of screaming intensified. The river was the {10-Spades} and Brenes' Big Slick held up. Vadim Thelin was eliminated and Brenes doubled through Deigo much to the delight of Brenes' friends and family.

The 'Ol Tres-Outer

Diego Maggiolo was all-in with {Q-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} against Dominik Nitsche's {J-Spades} {8-Clubs}. The {4-Hearts} {A-Spades} {9-Clubs} gave Maggiolo a pair and after the {K-Clubs} came on the turn, Nitsche was drawing dead to a jack. And that's just what happened as Nitsche spiked the {J-Hearts} to seize the pot and send Maggiolo out of the tournament.
