Day 2 Begins Shortly

Welcome back for Day 2 of the 2009 PokerStars.net LAPT Playa Conchal. The first day of action saw 259 players take to the felt. At the end of the eight levels played, 119 of them remained.

Rob Woodcock will enter the day as the chip leader, holding 147,600 chips. Woodcock was also the chip leader after Day 1 of this event last year that took place in San Jose.

Many members of Team PokerStars PRO also made it through. Gualter Salles, Victor Ramdin, Alexandre Gomes, Humberto Brenes, Maria "Maridu" Mayrinck, JC Alvarado, Leo Fernandez, Jose Ignacio Barbero, Angel Guillen and Andre Akkari round out that list.

The table and seat draw can be found below along with everyone's chip count. Play is scheduled to resume at 12:00 p.m. local time and if it's anything like yesterday, they'll have the cards in the air the second the clock hits noon. While you wait, check out our Daily Update video below.

Stay tuned!

Shuffle Up and Deal!

The players are all set to go and the cards are in the air. From here on out, play will be eight-handed. The tournament staff announced that the plan is to play down to 32 players today.

The button will begin in Seat #5.

Garoaring Start

Garoar Hauksson just took down a big pot in a hand against Francis Cagney over on Table 10 to move to 121,000 in chips.

With the board showing {8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{J-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}, Cagney check-called bets of 9,000 and 20,500 on the turn and river, only to watch Hauksson turn over the flopped nuts -- {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}.

Cagney mucked his hand straight away, dropping to just under 40,000 in chips in the process.

Merrifield Takes the Lead

Steven Merrifield has stolen the chip lead from former top dawg Rob Woodcock and is now sitting with right around 210,000.

After the hand, Merrifield was moved to a new table and stopped to say hello to a friend on the way.

"The chip leader tried to bluff the kid..." Merrifield joked. "I'm the new chip leader!"

Mariduing it with Aces

Maria 'Maridu' Mayrinck is in the middle of a serious heater to start Day 2. Shortly after doubling up to 74,000 a few minutes ago, she managed to pick up pocket aces and knock one of the smaller stacks out of the tournament. Needless to say, she's becoming very fond of her dealer:

"Don't change her! Call the floor! I don't want her to leave me," Mayrinck pleaded.

If you didn't catch it yesterday, Lynn had a chat with Maridu on Day 1:

Akkari Makin' Moves

Andre Akkari raised to 2,800 from middle position. He was called by four players: Leonardo Emperador in the hijack seat, Ezequiel Giuzzi in the cutoff, Alpohnse Voigt on the button and Francis Kemper Cagney in the big blind.

The flop came down {K-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {3-Clubs}. Cagney checked and Akkari fired 6,700. Emperador called, the next two folded and then Cagney called as well.

The turn was the {Q-Spades} and Cagney checked. Akkari moved all in for about 26,000. Both remaining players folded and Akkari scooped in the pot. He now has roughly 60,000 chips.
