Chreem Churning Chips From Chidwick

Helio Chreem has won three hands in about ten minutes from Stephen Chidwick, knocking the young pro from 210,000 to about 65,000.

In the biggest of the three, Chidwick raised to 6,600 from the hijack and Chreem defended his big blind. The flop came down {4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and Chreem check-called 8,500 from Chidwick. The turn was the {9-Hearts} and again he check-called a bet from Chidwick, this time 15,000.

The river brought the {3-Clubs} and Chreem checked it once again. Chidwick bet 28,000, but was met with an immediate all in. Chidwick folded and Chreem turned up {9-Spades}{7-Spades}.

The late rush has boosted Chreem's stack to 270,000.

A Setback for Zapiello

We walked up to Table 7 to see a big pot brewing between two of the big stacks. On the turn, the board showed {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {J-Hearts}, and there were already about 45,000 chips in the pot. Daniela de Lima Zapiello fired out 25,000, and Ernesto Panno went into the tank for a minute. It was hard to tell, but it looked like a pretty non-convincing acting job as Panno seemed to be pained by the bet. Finally, he called.

The river filled out the board with the {10-Diamonds}, and Zapiello passed this time. After spending another minute with a scowl on his face, Panno fired out 60,000 at the pot, and Zapiello's cards instantly hit the muck.

We never saw Panno's cards, but he seemed quite disappointed in his opponent's fold. Despite that setback, Zapiello still has the chip lead with about 335,000.

I Will Not Name This Post "Nacho Chips"

An unknown player under the gun open-shoved for his short stack of about 27,000. He almost made it all the way around the table, but big stack Nacho Barbero announced the call from the big blind, turning up {6-Clubs} {6-Spades}. The all-in player appeared to be content to race for his tournament life with his {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}.

The board ran down blank, coming {9-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {3-Spades}. That failed to improve the overcards of the at-risk (and now-eliminated) player, and he wished his table luck before departing.

Barbero raked in yet another pot, and he's very quickly approaching 300,000 after adding those chips to his pile.

It's Always that Dang River

Clas Thorsell opened to 9,000 in early position, and he was three-bet to 27,900 by small blind Jose Luis Capdevila. Not to be outdone, Mariano Roca moved all in over the top of both men, pushing his last 55,800 chips into the middle from the big blind. That was enough to fold Thorsell, but Capdevila made the quick call to put his man at risk. And the news was not good for the all-in player.

Showdown
Capdevila: {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}
Roca: {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts}

The flop was pretty useless for the pocket jacks as it came {Q-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {Q-Hearts}. The {4-Spades} on the turn wasn't any help either, but the river card was certainly a bit more useful. The {J-Spades} ripped off the deck, giving Roca the surprise trips and securing his eleventh-hour double up. He's all the way up to about 115,000 courtesy of that timely two outer.

Zapiello Zaps Another

An early position player raised to 9,000 and Daniela de Lima Zapiello defended her big blind.

The flop came down {7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and she checked to her opponent. He wasted little time moving all in for 30,000 with {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and she didn't waste much time in making the call with {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}.

The {A-Clubs} hit the turn and for good measure she made a straight on the river with the {6-Hearts}, vaulting her to 345,000.

Boys Chasing Girls

We have a new chip leader.

Daniela de Lima Zapiello is now at the head of this class, sitting pretty with a stack of 280,000. She's one of two remaining ladies in the field, and she's miles ahead of her fellow-female Veronica Dabul. Her towering stacks put her clearly in front of the other 56 men in the room, and Zapiello's rise to the top is no fluke. She's picked her spots well for two days straight, losing small pots and winning big ones.

It looks like she's involved in another big pot right now...

Proof That Humberto DOES Bluff

We joined up to this hand a bit late, but it's a noteworthy one.

On a board of {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}, Humberto Brenes and Clas Thorsell had built a pot of about 15,000 chips in the middle of the table. Brenes was first to speak, and he led out with 12,700 chips.

Thorsell went deep into the tank for a minute or two as Brenes hummed away to the music on his iPod. Eventually, he began singing along quietly, and another minute or two of this serenade passed. Finally, Thorsell made the call. Brenes knocked the table, unwilling to show. He had a complete bluff, and Thorsell must have been proud to show up {K-?} {9-?}, his king good enough to win that sizable pot.
