Ospina Gets Value

Daniel Ospina, who currently sits in second place on the LAPT Player of the Year Leaderboard, opened for 350 from middle position and received calls from the cutoff and button. The {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop saw Ospina fire out 625, which was called by just the player on the button.

Ospina kept the pressure on with a 1,300 bet on the {5-Clubs} turn, and again the button called. The {8-Clubs} river saw Ospina toss out two yellow chips, worth T1,000 each, and the button snap-called. Ospina rolled over {K-Spades}{10-Spades} for tens and fours, and it was good as his opponent simply mucked. Ospina is off to a good start, currently sitting on 27,000.

Brenes Up...Brenes Down

Humberto Brenes chipped back up to more than the starting stack, but has slipped back down. After the under-the-gun player limped in, Brenes raised to 750 in middle position. Action folded around to the limper who three-bet to 2,950.

Brenes called, landing a {Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop to the board. The under-the-gun player kept up the heat with a bet of 4,100. A quick fold from Brenes led to his opponent showing {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} while collecting the chips.

At the end of the season, players will also have the opportunity to vote for the LAPT Achievement of the Year and LAPT Venue of the Year Awards. We imagine the Casino Allegre will be in contention for the latter.

One For Manzano

A player in middle position kicked off the action by limping in. Christian de Leon did the same from the small blind, Alex Manzano checked his option, and the flop came down {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.

Three checks later the {6-Spades} hit the turn. Action was checked to Manzano who bet 300, receiving calls from both opponents. When the {3-Spades} fell on the river, de Leon checked it to Manzano again. This time, the LAPT Sao Paolo champion fired 3,100. Two immediate folds gave him the pot.

About Allegre Casino

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

The venue for today's event is a little different than we're used to. Located inside the Centro Comercial Premium Plaza, which is the equivalent to a mall, the Allegre Casino is tucked away up on the third floor. It may be on the smaller side, but it is no less impressive. According to the PokerStars LAPT Porgram:

Allegre is home to 350 slot and video poker machines to complement its 25 blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and poker tables. When you're not gambling, Allegre has a bar so you can have a drink at anytime and live music with dancing to pass the time.

Designed by the famed casino architect Willy Gomez-Moron, Allegre is a mix of classic casino decor with elegant Latin American flavor. With high-class marble floors to reflect the casino lights, Allegre is like a Las Vegas casino transported to South America.

Trips No Good For Brenes

Picking up the action on a {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop, Humberto Brenes' bet of 600 was called by Carlos Watanabe and another opponent.

The {9-Spades} landed on the turn and Brenes fired again, this time for 1,600. Watanabe got out of the way, but the third player in the hand min-raised to 3,200. Brenes called, then checked the {Q-Diamonds} river. His opponent checked as well and tabled {7-Spades}{6-Spades} for a flush.

Brenes flashed {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} before mucking his hand.

Here's the 411 on Medellin

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

If you're interested in Medellin, the host city for this LAPT stop, you might find the following excerpt from the PokerStars program:

If you had the time to do a little traveling around Colombia's 1.1 million square kilometers of land, you could see both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. The fourth biggest country in South America, Colombia is home to more than 45 million people, also making it the second most populated country.

Medellin is Colombia's second largest city (behind capital Bogota). More than three million people reside in the area and have helped it rise to become the top industrial city in the country. Nestled in the Aburra Valley and cut in half by the Medellin River, the city is also a center for some of the best nightlife (la rumba) in the country. Travel authorities now call Medellin, known as the "City of Eternal Spring," one of Latin America's safest big cities.

If you're looking for things to do during a day or night off, check out Catedral Metropolitana (Calle & Carrera) for some beautiful architecture, Restaurante Hato Viejo (Carrera 47 No 52-17 La Candelaria) for its stellar menu of local fare, or Zona Rosa (Calles 9 and 10A, and Carreras 36 and 42) for its famous nightlife scene.

We've only been in the city for a day, but we can already tell you this is one of the more impressive cities we've been to in South America,
