Kiles Leads Final 27 Into Day 3

Cassio Kiles
Cassio Kiles

Welcome back to Day 3 of the 2011 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Main Event. Just 27 players remain spread across four tables here in Uruguay and leading the way is Cassio Kiles with 1.12 million in chips.

Kiles has greater than a 400,000-chip lead over his next closest competitor Andrey Tsitovich who sits with 712,000. From there, Juan Jose Perez (617,000), Fernando Araujo (407,000) and Nicasio Toranzo (390,000) round out the top five. The goal today though is to make it to the top eight and the official final table in order to return tomorrow to contend for the title.

Everyone remaining has locked up a minimum of $5,180 with another pay jump coming after a few more players hit the rail. One of the players still left standing who will have to do a lot of work early if he's going to go deeper in this event is notable Max Stern. As chronicled yesterday, Stern has just shy of $1.5 million in career tournament earnings and three World Series of Poker gold bracelets. An LAPT title would be a great thing to add to his record for the PokerStars qualifier, but with just 70,000 in chips coming into Day 3, he's got quite the road ahead of him.

Play is set to begin promptly at 12:00 PM local time here in Punta del Este, Uruguay and it's set to be another great day on the felt. However long it takes, the tournament will play until a final table of eight has been reached and then call it quits for the day. PokerNews will be on hand for all of it to provide the live coverage and you should stay glued to your computer screen to follow along. We'll see you back here shortly!

Zuccotti Takes A Hit

Alejandro Federico de Arruabarrena opened to 25,000 under the gun. Fernando Zuccotti re-raised all in from the big blind with the bigger stack and de Arruabarrena called all in for about 180,000 total with {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

Zuccotti had him crushed with {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}, but failed to hold up as the board ran out {8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

Fernando Zuccotti Eliminated in 27th Place ($5,180)

Action folded to Fernando Zuccotti in the small blind and he moved all in for approximately 55,000. Alejandro Federico de Arruabarrena called from the big blind to put him at risk.

Zuccotti: {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Arruabarrena: {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The flop, turn and river ran out {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and Zuccotti failed to improve. He was eliminated in 27th place and earned $5,180 for his finish. Arruabarrena improved to over 400,000 in chips.

Manuel Pastor Eliminated in 26th Place ($5,180)

From early position, Claudio Piedrabeuna raised to 27,000. In middle position, PokerStars qualifier Manuel Pastor reraised all in for right around 240,000. Action folded back to Piedrabeuna and he made the call holding the {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Pastor was dominated with the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and looking for some good fortune to double through.

The flop came down {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Pastor wasn't left with much help. The turn brought the {J-Spades}, which left Pastor down to just one card left. He needed to find an ace on the river or he would be eliminated from play.

The dealer slapped the {6-Hearts} on the river and that was all she wrote for Pastor. He was eliminated in 26th place and walked away with $5,180 in prize money.

Jose Luis Rodrigues Eliminated in 25th Place ($5,180)

Jose Luis Rodrigues - 25th place

We caught the tail end of this one with the end result being Jose Luis Rodrigues being eliminated from the tournament.

With the final board reading {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Nicasio Toranzo fired 100,000 and Rodrigues called all in for his last 60,000. Toranzo held the {K-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for a Broadway straight on the turn while Rodrigues had the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a pair of jacks. With Rodrigues' hand being second best and him having less chips, he was eliminated from the tournament in 25th place for $5,180.

There are now 24 players remaining and they are maneuvering themselves at the final three tables. Everyone left has earned a pay jump to $6,120.

Jose Munoz Eliminated in 24th Place ($6,120)

Nicasio Toranzo was right back at it and this time he sent Jose Munoz out the door in 24th place. Action folded to Munoz in the cutoff seat and he raised all in. Toranzo called from the small blind and everyone else got out of the way.

Toranzo: {A-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Munoz: {Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

The flop gave Munoz the lead with the {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades} falling. Munoz was now in front with a pair of eights and just needed to dodge the turn and river to stay alive in order to double up.

The turn brought the {A-Diamonds}, which was the worst card he could see. It gave Toranzo a pair of aces and put him in the lead. From there, Munoz was left needing another eight or a queen on the river, but couldn't find it when the {J-Hearts} fell.

Toranzo moved to over 600,000 in chips after eliminating Munoz on this hand.
