Day 1 Started
Welcome to PokerNews' coverage of the LAPT Punta del Este Main Event, brought to you by PokerStars.net. Throughout the LAPT's 4+ year history, there has been one constant on the schedule.
The Mantra Resort in Punta del Este, Uruguay is once again host to the festivities as in four days time, a second winner in Season 5 of the LAPT will be crowned. In March, Aliro Diaz won LAPT Chile to take down the first title of the season.
When the LAPT was last in Uruguay in August 2011, Alex Komaromi became the first Uruguayan to win on the LAPT. We don't know if he's back to defend his title, but we'll certainly keep an eye out for him.
Play is set to kick off at noon local time, about a half hour from now, so be sure to keep it here at PokerNews throughout the day for updates on all of the action. See you at the top of the hour!
Final preparations are being made before play begins.

Both players checked rather quickly and Engel's opponent flashed for ace high. Engel tabled for two pair to win the pot.

We caught up on the action to see the board read with over 12,000 in the pot. Humberto Brenes' opponent pushed out a bet and Brenes immediately stacked his remaining chips and pushed all in. His opponent announced a call and tabled his cards, showing for a flopped two pair that turned into a flush.
Brenes gave a small chuckle and threw his face up on the table as the losing hand. Brenes shook his head as he grabbed his handful of remaining chips, amounting in 2,650.
