After six levels, Day 1 of Season 5 LAPT Uruguay Main Event has come to an end. Roughly 270 players remain from the 375 that began the day and on top of the counts is Juan Garcia. He bagged up 134,650 and appears to be the only player in the field with a six-figure stack.

Team PokerStars was well represented in the field today and among those who survived were Angel Guillen (24,000), Nacho Barbero (22,600), and Humberto Brenes (16,825). Fellow Team Pros Andre Akkari, Christian de Leon, and Leo Fernandez will not be returning for Day 2.

Notables that will also be back on Friday include Season 4 LAPT Colombia champion Julian Menendez (72,000), Fabrizio Gonzalez (62,875), Bolivar Palacios (44,650), and defending champion Alex Komaromi (37,075).

Day 2 will begin at noon local time tomorrow, so be sure to keep it here at PokerNews for all of the exciting action. Until then, good night from Punta del Este!

Barbero Moves All In; Takes Down Pot

On a flop of {J-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, Team PokerStars pro Nacho Barbero checked to his opponent on the button. His opponent checked as well and fourth street brought the {5-Spades}, pairing the board. Barbero checked once again and his opponent bet 1,200. Barbero opted to raise, making it 3,700 and his opponent called.

The river brought a fourth spade in the form of the {A-Spades} and Barbero quickly moved all in for a little over 12,000. His opponent pondered for about two minutes before lightly tossing his hand to the muck.

One For Menendez

Julian Menendez
Julian Menendez

We arrived at the table as the chips were being pulled in, but three players committed 4,200 to the pot preflop, one being Season 4 LAPT Colombia Champion Julian Menendez.

The flop came down {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and the player in the big blind bet 5,800. It forced a fold from a middle-position player, but Menendez called to see the {5-Hearts} turn. Both checked, landing the {2-Clubs} on the river. The player in the big blind checked it to Menendez who after a few moments bet 8,000.

After about 90 seconds in the tank, Menendez's opponent gave it up.

Two Pair No Good For Engel

A player in middle position opened to 1,500. He was called by Ari Engel in the hijack, the player in the small blind, and Adolfo Vaeza in the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and action checked to Engel. He bet 1,900, but was immediately raised to 4,000 by the player in the small blind. Vaeza and the middle-position player folded, Engel called, and the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn. The bet was 4,000 from the player in the small blind. Another call from Engel landed the {7-Diamonds} on the river which the player in the small blind checked. Engel bet 9,400, but was met with a quick call.

Both flopped two pair, but the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} of the player in the small blind bested Engel's {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades} to win the pot.
