Day 3 Completed
Thomas Eychenne booked his second major career win right here in Barcelona, where he won the EPT Main Event last year. Heads-up play began with Thomas Eychenne holding a roughly 6.5:1 chip lead over Virgile Turchi.
On the first hand, Turchi moved in holding 10♦9♥ and ran into Eychenne's pocket queens. Despite flopping a ten and turning a gutshot, Turchi could not overcome the juggernaut of Eychenne and had to settle for second place.
Lars Tungel got all in for 7,800,000 holding A♥6♠ and ran into Thomas Eychenne's pocket eights. An eight on the flop was a dagger to Tungel. He failed to catch any miracle and was eliminated in third place.
Pocket queens made another appearance, this time in the hands of Thomas Eychenne. He flopped a set to soundly defeat Marwan Walid Salamoun's A♣J♥.
Christian Kaufmann's ace-high was beaten on the river when Thomas Eychenne paired his four. Kaufmann earned €156,700 for his fifth-place finish.
With this pot, Eychenne reclaimed the chip lead.
Gilles Simon, in a case of déjà vu, ran big slick into Virgile Turchi's pocket queens. The queens held again for Turchi, and Simon was sent packing in sixth place.
Turchi moved into the chip lead with that pot.
