After nearly three years of cancellations and postponements, the spring edition of The Malta Poker Festival is soon to begin with Day 1a of the €300,000 guaranteed €550 buy-in Grand Event .

The festival, organised by Ivonne Montealegre, is a great stepping stone for recreation poker players and has a loyal and passionate community that helps make it the premier poker series on the island.

Day 1a gets underway at 2 p.m. local time and players receive a starting stack of 50,000.

Starting flights will close after 13 levels of action, all of which last 40-minutes.

Late registration is open until the end of the break that follows Level 8 and each participant is permitted two re-entries per flight.

Past Malta Poker Festival Grand Event Champions

Italy's Emanuele Onnis was the inaugural MPF Main Event winner, outlasting 1,365 other entries. He took home the €150,000 top prize after despatching Fabian Gumz at heads-up.

Tomas Sujeta was the Grand Event champion in 2019 and collected the €150,000 up top. The 2019 field attracted a healthy 1,324-entries with Israel's Dmitri Dan finishing as the runner-up.

Four ways to the {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop with 1,300 in the pot, Gaetano Caruana and Joseph Grech checked from the blinds before
Jacqueline Cachia bet 700 from the cutoff.

Bora Uludag folded on the button and only Caruana called.

Caruana mucked his cards on the {9-Clubs} turn after Cachia fired for 1,300.

Cory Desmond opened to 300 from under the gun and was only called by Jan Stigter from the small blind.

Stitger check-called a bet of 300 on the {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop to bring in the {k-Clubs} turn.

Stitger then check-raised to 2,000 after his opponent continued for 500. Desmond returned his cards to the dealer.

Lars Alvertjarn opened to 300 from the cutoff before Danny Smith bumped it up to 800 on the button. Jaocim Blom called from the big blind and Alvertjarn saw a flop as well.

Action checked to Smith on the {j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop, and he bet 1,600. Only Blom called.

Blom checked on the {4-Spades} turn and Smith continued the aggression with a bet of 3,100. Blom then raised to 8,500 before Smith instantly moved all-in. Blom shook his head before folding.
