Day 1c has concluded at the 2022 Malta Poker Festival Spring €550 Grand Event at Portomaso Casino, Malta with a strong showing from female players.

Australia's Tanja Vujanic had a solid day by bagging 417,000. Vujanic was consistently a big stack throughout today steadily increasing her chips and will be one to watch on Day 2.

The chip leader however is Georgios Ninis who stealthy built a stack of 429,000. PokerNews will be keeping close tabs on the Greek player when the players reconvene on Sunday.

PokerStars Hippodrome Pro Chris Da Silva comfortably advanced to day 2 with a stack of 202,000, however British compatriots Keith Boniface, Gary Whitehead, and Bradley Joyce were eliminated

It was deja vu for Eden Azulay as he was the first casualty of the day on consecutive days.

One of the biggest hands of the day was Noah Gorosh tripling up with pocket aces, which busted Giovanni Palma and left Nico Jarnstrom with fumes

Currently ongoing is the €220 Bounty Hunter Days side event where the players are playing for the first-place prize of €6,500 as well as any €100 bounty prizes they pick up along the way.

53 players out of 191 entries have made it to Day 2. So far, 119 players will be coming back on Sunday, May 1, out of the 445 entries.

Alexis Lucarini opened to 8,000 from middle position and was called by Antonio Guerrero and Nicolas Giannotti from the button and big blind respectively.

Action checked to Guerrero on the {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop, he bet 13,000 and only Giannotti called.

The {a-Clubs} turn checked through to the {q-Spades} river and Giannotti bet 22,000. Guerrero paused for a moment and then called.

Giannotti turned over the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} while Guerrero held the {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. The entire table gasped as Giannotti won the hand with ten-high.

One player exclaimed "sick value bet!"

Guerrero explained to the table he put his opponent on a seven or worse pocket pair and that his eight-high would be the best play.

With 17,000 in the middle on the {9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} board, Herve Bajon check-jammed for 60,000 from the big blind after Robert Lim bet 9,000 from middle position. Lim was covered and would be at risk of elimination if he called.

Lim writhed in his seat and replayed the hand several times out loud.

"I beat nothing," he said.

He called anyway and saw the bad news as his opponent turned over the {4-Spades}{4-Hearts} for a set of fours while Lim had top pair top kicker with his {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

The {k-Clubs} river was just a formality and Lim left the event.

There was a huge commotion on table 12, with the entire table on their feet with their phones out. There was a huge preflop three-way all-in between Giovanni Palma (hijack - 50,000) Noah Gorosh (cutoff - 41,700) and Nico Jarnstrom (button - 71,000).

Noah Gorosh: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Just a few moments later, Palma would head towards the exit following his elimination.
