Nemo Israel

Welcome to Day 2 of the 2022 Malta Poker Festival €550 Grand Event which kicks off at 2 p.m. CEST from the marvellous Portomaso Casino.

The crown jewel of the MPF has smashed all expectations, garnering a whopping 1,019 entries. This has meant the €300,000 guarantee has been obliterated, with the final prize pool standing at €486,720!

Of those 1,019 entries, just 273 players are returning. Nemo Israel comes back with biggest, following his supreme navigation skills on Day 1b. Rounding out the top three chip stacks for Day 2 are Luigi D'Alterio and Victor Fryda.

Other notables who will be taking a seat in Day 2 include Unibet Ambassador David Lappin, PokerStars Hippodrome Pro Chris Da Silva and Women's Poker Association advocate Christina Read, who also was victorious in the series' Ladies First! event.

Today's action sees the blinds increase to 50 minutes with the plan to play down to the final three tables. Play resumes at Level 14 with the blinds at 3,000/5,000/5,000a. If that changes, PokerNews will be the first to let you know. Those who pilot a stack over to the final and third day will once again return on Monday, May 2 at 2 p.m..

"Ace-king with the ace of diamonds?" asked Ly.

Tsakas' Elimination Sets Up Bubble

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Stavros Tsakas
Stavros Tsakas

Stavros Tsakas opened-jammed for 107,000 from the hijack and was called by Soner Vanelderen on the button. After the remaining hands on the outer tables finished, both players exposed their cards.

Stavros Tsakas: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Soner Vanelderen: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

Both players had the same hand and flopped Broadway on the {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop. The {3-Spades} turn drew a reaction from the spectators and the room erupted on the {2-Spades} river, which gave Vanelderen the flush. Tsakas couldn't believe what had happened but congratulated his opponent after the hand.

Terje Bremseth
Terje Bremseth

On a board of {8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts} with 133,000 in the middle, Terje Bremseth moved all-in from middle position for 160,000 and was called by Ridvan Kilincaslan in the big blind. The players and spectators gathered around the table to see the showdown in hope of the bubble bursting.

Terje Bremseth: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Ridvan Kilincaslan: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}

Everyone else in the field is now guaranteed a payday of at least €1,100.

Sick Cooler for Wayne and Hoogendijk

Level 19 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Carolyn Wayne
Carolyn Wayne

Three players were all-in preflop, Jan Hoogendijk covered Daryl Benton and Carolyn Wayne.

Carolyn Wayne: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Daryl Benton: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Jan Hoogendijk: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

An ace in the window effectively killed any chance for Wayne or Hoogendijk to win the hand. The board ran {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} to send Wayne to the pay cage, leave Hoogendijk with shrapnel and Benton scooped in a seven-figure pot,

Da Silva Takes Chip Lead After Busting Israel

Level 21 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Chris Da Silva
Chris Da Silva

Chris Da Silva opened to 40,000 from early position and was called by Nemo Israel in the big blind.

Israel check-called a bet of 30,000 on the {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{x-} flop. He then check-raised to 350,000 on the {9-Spades} turn after Da Silver bet 125,000. Da Silva called.

The {q-Hearts} river prompted Israel to empty the clip and jammed for around 800,000. Da Silva went deep into the tank and the clock was called. Da Silva decided to make his decision on the flip of a coin and it came the side where he said we would call.

Israel had six-high with {6-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Da Silva scooped one of, if not, the biggest pot of the day with his {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.
