"Wrong Decision" Turns Out Great for Lykov

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

As we arrived, the board was already out in a 3-way pot: {2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{K-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Lykov had a 5,000-chip in front of him and had apparently said "five five". There was some confusion with Lykov saying he meant 5,500, while the dealer said it was a bet of 550.

The brush came over and after some arguing, he said: "I'm going to make a decision, it's 550."

"That's the wrong decision," Lykov said, backed by Louis Salter who had stated that it was obvious Lykov had meant 5,500. The floor was actually right, according to the TDA rules, but Lykov wasn't happy with it.

His first opponent tanked for a bit and ultimately decided just to call. The small blind overcalled.

Lykov showed {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for nothing but ace-high and the pair on the board. The player in late position tabled {3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a straight and took down the pot.

"It's ok, 5,500?" the Dutch player asked with a smile.

"No, no, no! It's a good decision!" Lykov replied with an even bigger smile, as the decision had saved him 4,950 in chips.

Minten Wins Two in a Row

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Niek Minten
Niek Minten

1) After an open to 300 and a 3-bet to 1,000, Minten made it 2,800 from the hijack. Both of his opponents called so it was 3-way to the flop of {A-Clubs}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}. It checked to Minten who bet 1,200. One fold, the other player check-raised to 3,800. Minten called in position.

The {3-Spades} on the turn saw Minten's opponent bet 10,000, more than enough to put Minten all in. Minten called for 7,500 and showed {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. His neighbor had {5-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a flush draw and missed with the {J-Diamonds} on the river.

2) The next hand, Minten opened for 300 from the hijack. The button 3-bet to 1,000 and Minten called. Minten check-called 600 on {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and another 1,800 on the {4-Diamonds} turn. Minten then lead out for what seemed 1,250 on the {5-Clubs} river. His opponent called, but mucked upon being shown {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} by Minten.

Van den Bijgaart an Early Casualty

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Joep van den Bijgaart was one of the early casualties today. We got some details from former tablemate Noah Boeken, en Van den Bijgaart himself later added some more.

Holding {J-}{J-}, Van den Bijgaart squeezed before the flop and both of the players who had already voluntarily put chips into the pot, called to make it 3-way to the flop.

On the {8-}{2-}{3-} flop with a flush draw, Van den Bijgaart saw one of his opponents check-raise. Van den Bijgaart called in position and called the push that followed on the turn as well. The turn had brought a second flush draw but, unfortunately for Van den Bijgaart, his opponent had {2-}{2-} for a set and not one of the flush draws. The river wasn't one of the 2 remaining jacks Van den Bijgaart needed, and he made an early exit.

Krijn Can't Beat Sixes

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We picked up the action on a flop of {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} as the small blind and hijack checked. Tonny Krijn, seated in the cutoff, bet 1,100. The small blind called, the hijack folded.

Both players checked the {Q-Diamonds} on the turn and the {9-Hearts} completed the board. The small blind bet 2,100 and Krijn called after some time in the tank.

The small blind showed {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} and she raked in the pot as Krijn mucked.

"Higher!"

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Bartel Kars, who won one of the events at the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam last year, was just involved in ahand with an interesting outcome.

After the river, he showed his {5-}{6-} to his opponent. His opponent, who turned out to be his neighbor, said the Dutch equivalent of "Higher".

Kars mucked, thinking his opponent meant that he had a higher hand than just a pair of fives. It turned out, though, Kars' opponent had just {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a pair of threes.

Since Kars had mucked, the brush was called over. But, it turned out there wasn't much of an issue since Kars' opponent didn't even want the pot, having seen that he was beat. So as quick as the brushes came, so quick were they gone again as the dealer pushed the small pot to Kars.
