Day 1b of the $5,300 Mediterranean Poker Party Main Eventat the beautiful Merit Royal Diamond Hotel in Northern Cyprus begins at noon local time today.
Today will be the second of three starting flights, and players will have plenty of play as they will receive 300,000 starting chips and play a 12 60-minute levels, beginning at 1,000/1,500 with a 1,500 big blind ante.
Day 1a attracted a whopping 349 total entries, nearly tripling the first flight of the same event in 2022. Of those 349, 89 managed to survive as the advanced to Day 2. "Ali G" found himself at the top of the leaderboard with a stack of 3,300,000, while Georgios Tsouloftas bagged 2,740,000.

One re-entry per flight is allowed, with late registration open until the end of Level 10. Those surviving Day 1 will return to play on May 10th as they battle for their piece of the $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. The eventual champion will be crowned on May 12th.

The cutoff opened to 3,500, and [Removed:546] three-bet to 12,000 next to act. The blinds quickly got out of the way, and the cutoff made the call.
The dealer spread a flop of K♠Q♠8♣, and both players tapped the table to see the 6♦ turn. The cutoff led for 12,500, and [Removed:547] stuck around with a call.
When the K♥ landed on the river, the cutoff checked, and [Removed:547] knuckled the table to check-back.
The cutoff rolled A♠8♠, for a pair of eights and a busted flush draw, and [Removed:547] took down the pot with 9♦9♥.

Niall Farrell opened 4,000 under the gun, and Alexey Losev defended the big blind.
The dealer spread a flop of 9♠9♦3♦, and Losev check-called a bet of 3,000.
When the 3♠ hit the turn, Losev checked once more to Farrell who took 20 seconds before dropping 8,500 across the line. Losev then put in the check-raise to 25,000, and Farrell instantly pitched his cards into the muck.

On the flop and turn, the pot had already swelled to about 12,000 when Nikolai Nasenkov, seated in the small blind, initiated the action with a 7,000 bet. Garik Tamasian responded with a raise to 17,000 chips, prompting a fold from another player, and Nasenkov opted to call.
As the river card, the 8♣, was revealed, Nasenkov checked, and Tamasian, feeling uncertain about his hand, chose to check back.
Nasenkov then revealed his hand, Q♥6♥, showing a pair of sixes along with a flush draw. However, Tamasian had him beat with a pair of tens, specifically K♥10♠, and scooped the roughly 46,000 pot.

With over 120,000 in the pot, the completed board of 8♠8♦7♠6♦J♣ was already on the felt. Pavel Kovalenko was in the tank, facing a bet of 78,000 from his only opponent in the hand, Mikhail Zavoloka.
While Kovalenko used a time bank, trying make a decision, Zavoloka began to cover his face, pulling his hat over his eyes and pulling his shirt to cover his mouth.
After a few more seconds, Kovalenko tossed in a chip to make the call. Zavoloka tabled Q♠10♠, missing his straight a flush draw, while Kovalenko took down the pot with A♦9♥.
