Chowdhury Busts Taylor To Extend Chip Lead

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Daniel Taylor
Daniel Taylor

Heads up on a {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop, with 20,000 in the middle, Daniel Taylor moved all-in for 47,000 (Chowdhury was already putting a big stack in to call when we arrived so it's unclear whether it was over a continuation bet or not). Chowdhury called quickly, showing down {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}; Taylor could only table top pair with {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

The turn and river {6-Spades}{j-Hearts} sealed Taylor's fate and the rich on Table 2 get richer. It seems there was history between these two opponents, as when Chowdhury started stacking Taylor's chips, a tablemate announced, "You're his nemesis!"

Chowdhury Takes Down Palfery-Smith

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

The seemingly unstoppable late rise of Saifur Chowdhury continues with the elimination of James Palfery-Smith, who jammed preflop with {a-Spades}{j-Spades} for around 30,000 only to run into {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. The board stayed low and spadeless: {2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

Full chip counts coming in the break (five minutes).

Short Stack Jams Get Through - Except Farrell's

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

Chris Moneymaker moved all in for 50,000 over the top of a Tin Tang flat call and took a set of blinds and the ante. Paul Herbertson did the same over the top of a button open to 10,000 from Ryan Kilbey (similar stack) and also picked up some uncontested chips.

When short-stacked Di Farrell took the plunge, however, over the top of a mid position open from Jake Hough, she ran into {a-}{a-}. There was a sweat for her {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} on the {3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop, but the flush did not materialise (the turn and river {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}).

Aces Take Out Daglish, Too

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

Seconds after Farrell's elimination, the new shortest stack still in contention, Steven Daglish, got his last chips all in preflop with {a-Hearts}{9-Spades} - only to run into Paul Simmons with {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}.

The next hand, he doubled through Steve Lewis, however, so Simmons' bid for chip leadership was short lived. "Easy come, easy go," he said.

Kings Good for Foggin, Aces for Downer

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

Two double-ups with monster hands see Marc Foggin and Colin Downer breathe more easily in the penultimate level of the day. Foggin moved all-in on a flop of {3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} over a lead of 14,000 from Tin Tang for 63,000. After a brief think, Tang made the call with an overpair (just) of {7-Spades}{7-Clubs} but failed to improve vs. Foggin's {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}.

Downer, meanwhile, found a timely {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} vs. {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} preflop match-up to rise to 185,000.

Moneymaker Slowplays Kings to Maximum Effect

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

A strange hand saw Chris Moneymaker pick up {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and play them as slowly as possible, flatting pre in a three way pot, checking through the {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop and the {10-Spades} turn while Marc Foggin and Paul Simmons checked behind. On the {k-Diamonds} river, Moneymaker checked yet again, as did Foggin. Simmons, however, bet 32,000. Moneymaker announced he was all in - for just 3,000 more. Simmons, shaking his head, folded (he said he had {a-}{k-}) while Moneymaker showed his full house and effectively doubled through.

"If I get beat slow playing then so be it," he said, adding, "You owe me 3,000 later."

"Well played," said Simmons.
