Craig Smith Tops 100,000 on Table Tuned to Radio Dunwoodie

Level 10 : 800/1,500, 1,500 ante
Craig Smith
Craig Smith

Thomas Dunwoodie is performing what can only be described as a one-man variety show, keeping up a chain of banter with his neighbour Jonathan Bowers while stopping to croon "You are so beautiful... to me!" or, mysteriously, show someone his toes.

Somehow poker is still being played; Craig Smith just busted a player to boost his stack to 104,000 in a battle of the (just) overpairs. Bowers opened preflop for 3,500, called by the cutoff, button, small blind Smith and big blind Nikolay Ponomarev.

The flop brought the {2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and checks to the button, who jammed for 35,800. Smith re-raised all in; the rest of the players in the hand suddenly weren't.

Smith: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Button: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The bigger overpair held over the {5-Hearts}{a-Spades} turn and river. Smith, who apparently travelled down with the Edinburgh gang of Usman Ulhaq and Gary Bertram, looks to have outlasted his buddies on Day 1c.

Lawrence Busts McManus in Definitive Flop Style

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

When Lewis McManus moved all in preflop under the gun plus one for 11,200 total, it folded round to Will Lawrence whose three-bet shove isolated the short stack. McManus was live: his {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} up against Lawrence's {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} - but not for long. McManus was drawing dead after the flop came down {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}, the {j-Spades}{4-Clubs} river just icing.

Farrell Feeling Owned

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

As players head back to the card room, here are Niall Farrell's feelings, in his own words (as heard by Willie Elliot), on the day so far:

“I’m getting absolutely owned over here, I’ve bluffed off two bullets and the one time I’ve actually got it, the {k-Clubs} on a four club board, this guy finds the f*****g fold with the {q-Clubs} and you just know the next time we’re in this spot and I bluff at it he’ll call me with the {8-Clubs}."

Edit: Under ten minutes post restart, Farrell is ensconced in the cash game featuring Chris Moneymaker, which sounds like it's at least as entertaining as the Main Event.

Ponomarev on Final Bullet

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Nikolay Ponomarev is on his last bullet for Day 1c, having just busted for the second time. Stephen Harris had opened in the hijack for 2,400 and small blind Ponomarev moved all-in for 19,500. At least 20 seconds passed before Harris called - with {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} - which raised an eyebrow or two on the table. Ponomarev tabled {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and the {j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} board missed him completely.

"What were you thinking about?" asked Ponomarev, before getting out the cash for a re-entry.

Richardson Gets Three Streets of Value with Flopped Set

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Michael Richardson is hovering just under six-figures stack-wise after taking down a pot vs. Andrew Tate. Caught from the {10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop, cutoff Tate check-called Richardson's 3,000 bet to see the {3-Hearts} turn. Another check-call, this time for 5,500. The river brought the {j-Hearts} and a final check from Tate. Richardson fired 9,000 and this time Tate took some time to make his decision, counting down his own remaining stack (it was around 65,000). He made the call, but mucked when Richardson showed {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}.
