Aynsley Explains Dent in His Stack

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante

Zac Aynsley's break-time chip count was smaller than anticipated after his kings-based double. He told us that he'd just suffered "a runner-runner beat" to drop 25,000 chips: he'd flopped a set with {7-}{7-} on a {7-}{2-}{q-} board, led out for 2,400 and been raised to 6,100. He flatted, making a full house with the {q-} turn. His opponent jammed for 22,000 and, called, showed down {a-}{q-}. The river was an ace, making queens full for his opponent and dropping Aynsley back to 55,000.

Mackenzie Over 70,000 After Winning Last Hand Pre-Break

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Andrew Mackenzie, one of a squad of Day 1d attendees from Edinburgh, took down a 15,000 pot right as the current break started, betting 2,600 on a {j-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop, checking the {j-Spades} turn, and betting 4,000 on the {7-Clubs} river. His opponent, who'd called each bet street, mucked when he saw Mackenzie's {10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, saying, "Nice hand."

Aynsley Shoved On Preflop "Because It's Me!"

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Zac Aynsley has just received a near double-up, busting Paul Kirkham in the process. After a mid-position open to 900, Kirkham flat called on the button and Aynsley three-bet out of the big blind to 6,400. The original raiser asked, "What do I get if I knock him out?" and folded when it turned out the answer was "nothing."

Kirkham, however, jammed for 34,500 and Aynsley snap-called.

Aynsley: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Kirkham: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

The flop brought a queen, but no further danger; Aynsley scooped a huge pot and as his table discussed the preflop shove, Aynsley, sporting a PokerStars patch, said, "It's because it's me. He thinks I'm trying to steal it with three-six or something!"

Angell Takes a Stab at a River

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante

Caught from the turn on a board of {5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, a pot of around 6,000 was being contested by Brett Angell, Martin Oliver and button Hazel Birchnall. None of them opted to bet the turn, but Angell, first to act, led out for 5,000 on the {9-Spades} river. Over to table chip leader, and unseasonably shorts-sporting Oliver, who thought for a while before throwing out a raise - to 12,000. Birchnall and Angell both released their hands in seconds.

Hussein Gets Double Tank-Fold On Ace-High Flop

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

A hand escalated quickly preflop between Blair Matheson, under the gun, his neighbour Haji Hussein and big blind Mark Grant. Matheson opened to 800, Hussein called and it folded to Grant who upped the bet to a chunky 3,700. Both of his opponents made the call.

The flop: {q-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. Grant and Matheson checked, and Hussein moved all in for 11,800, around the size of the pot. Grant took a turn in the tank, counting out calling chips, considering the board and finally deciding to fold. Matheson took his time, too, chip riffling while Hussein could just watch and wait on the last decision in the hand. When Matheson passed, Hussein flashed the {a-Spades}.

"I had kings," said Grant.
