Tran Loses a Few Chips

Jimmy Tran limped in from middle position and then the small blind completed before Jeff Shulman checked his option in the big blind. The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Spades} and the small blind fired 400. Shulman folded and Tran called.

The turn card put the {8-Clubs} out there and the small blind led again, this time making a bet of 1,200. Tran folded and slipped back to 47,000 chips.

Greenstein Busts Charania

Charania Eliminated
Charania Eliminated
On the board of {A-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, Mohsin Charania fired 3,000 before Barry Greenstein raised to 8,000. Charania moved all in and Greenstein called.

When the hands were turned over, Charania held a set of fives with the {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}. He was behind though, and needed the board to pair against Greenstein's made straight with the {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

The river couldn't find any help for Charania as the {J-Hearts} rolled off and he was sent to the rail. Greenstein moved up to 49,000 chips.

Le Moving Up

Nam Le has been extremely active here at the NAPT Venetian. He jut got involved in another pot where he fired 1,000 on the flop of {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. His opponent made the call, bringing the two players to a turn card of the {8-Hearts}. Both checked the turn and then the {9-Diamonds} fell on the river.

Le fired 2,200 and his opponent made the call, but did so with an unhappy look at his face. Le showed him the highest straight available with the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. The other player held the {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} for a smaller straight.

Le is now just over 80,000 in chips.

Brown Beneficiary of Bad Bluff

Andrew Brown was just given an extremely generous gift here in Level 5 of NAPT Venetian. He was part of a seven-handed limped flop of {Q-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {3-Clubs}. With 2,300 chips in the middle, Men Nguyen was the first mover, making a weak stab of 600 at the pot. He was called by a middle position player and by Brown before the small blind made a small check-raise to 2,800. Nguyen quickly surrendered.

The second player tanked for a few moments before calling. Brown then asked the small blind, "How much are you playing?" He was told that the small blind had about 18,000 before also calling.

The turn was a total brick, {2-Hearts}. The small blind tanked for a minute and then fired out a third of his remaining stack, 6,000. Again each of the second player and Brown tanked before calling. On this street Brown eyed the middle position player's stack (approximately 17,000 behind after calling the 6,000) before calling.

The river was the {9-Spades}. The small blind tanked one more time and then moved all in for 11,900. It was apparently a very tough decision for the player caught between the small blind and Brown. Ultimately he opted to fold, a decision which brought a snap-call from Brown.

Brown triumphantly turned over the nuts, {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs}. The small blind sheepishly tossed in his complete airball, {K-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}, and quickly exited the tournament area, having bluffed off more than 70 big blinds.

The player in between the small blind and Brown copped to folding a set of queens after the hand had ended.

Brown is now up to about 90,000 chips.

Fricke Always with Nothing

With 5,400 in the middle and a final board of {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, Jimmy Fricke fired 4,500 with only one other player in the hand with him. After tanking for a few minutes, the player folded and Fricke scooped the pot. He's now up to 50,000 chips.

"You win another one without showing, big man?" asked a player from the other end of the table.

"Yep, I always have nothing," responded Fricke.

AmichaiKK Doubles with Some Trouble

Daniel Makowsky
Daniel Makowsky
Daniel "amichaiKK" Makowsky's table was in the middle of a heated debate when we got there. He was all in with {Q-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} against an opponent with {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} on a {J-Hearts} {J-Spades} {9-Hearts} flop. The debate was over whether the dealer had pulled in the correct number of chips before counting Makowsky's remaining stack.

Things seemed settled and she dealt the {4-Clubs} turn and {10-Spades} river. Makowsky's trip jacks were good for the double up, but again the dealer had difficulty counting the correct amount of chips out of Makowsky's opponent's stack. The floor watched and shrugged, not able to do much to help. Eventually Makowsky was satisfied, and he stacked about 44,000 as the table moved on to the next hand.

Le Tank-folds

On a flop of {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, two players checked over to Nam Le. He fired a bet of 1,500 and the first player called. The next player folded.

The turn card was the {Q-Clubs} and the first player bet out 4,000. Le folded his hand after finding out how many chips his opponent had left (11,600) and a few minutes in the tank.

Ho Doesn't Fall for the Trap

After her opponent checked to her, Maria Ho fired 2,600 on a board of {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. The player made the call and then another jack fell on the river with the {J-Clubs}. The player checked to Ho and she didn't fire. Her opponent tabled {J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for quads.

Ho is sitting on 35,600.

Steicke Stuck

A few tables over, an opponent made an easier call against David Steicke. Steicke was out of position for a three-handed flop of {6-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}. He checked and then was the only player to call a bet of 1,300. Both players checked the {K-Diamonds} turn, inducing Steicke to bet 4,000 when the river came {Q-Hearts}. His opponent quickly called with two pair, {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}. That beat out Steicke's smaller two pair, {K-Hearts} {7-Hearts}, to take the pot.

When Did Kenny Tran Get Here?

A player at Daniel Negreanu's table actually bowed to him after a recent hand. Negreanu bet a {2-Spades} {9-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} flop and was called. He check-called a bet on the {3-Clubs} turn and checked again when the river fell {Q-Hearts}. His opponent made the price of a showdown 9,000 chips.

"I only lose to a set," mused Negreanu. "Do you really have a set?" Negreanu studied his opponent a few moments longer and then threw 9,000 of his own chips into the pot. His opponent showed down a complete airball, {J-Spades} {10-Spades}. Negreanu happily turned over {A-Clubs} {4-Clubs} -- a busted ace-high flush draw -- to rake in the pot with a very "sick call".

Negreanu is up to about 55,000.
